The Complete Series

DVD - 2011
Average Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.
England in the early 1900s. Christina is sent to live with her domineering, crippled Uncle Russell and her cousins Mark and William at Flambards, a rambling, decaying mansion. Life at Flambards is a conflict of cultures, with Mark and his father clinging to a traditionalist obsession for horses, whilst William dreams of a career in the new technology of aviation. When Christina arrives, her presence generates a changing pattern of events and relationships.

For once, a Young Adult historical romance that does not patronize either its viewers or the past. Flambards is set in the flip side of Heartbreak House, Horseback Hall; an excellent place if one likes riding, killing, and drinking, and a horrible place if one lacks an independent income. But as WW I approaches, there is literally a new spirit in the air. The young protagonists, chosen for their acting ability as well as their looks, are backed up by some of the unobtrusive greats of British theatre and television. One flaw: an insistent earworm of a soundtrack, which will drive you insane if you listen too closely. K.M. Peyton's original books are also highly recommended, but be warned: this is a Young Adult series, not Downton Abbey.

So cool that this DVD is at the library. I was looking for the books to read, didn't know there was a TV series of it. Really looking forward to watching.

Wonderful, well-written story. It has 3 DVDs in this set. At the beginning, you may need to give it a bit of time to get used to this movie's style. The story's characters are well acted! The story and the characters are so mesmerizing that you may find it hard to stop watching until the end! Worth watching, for sure! Great scenery, romance, etc.!

This is a well acted, interesting story about the earliest development of airplanes in England. The unusual characters are magnetic, although sometimes really obnoxious. I've watched this series 3 times!

This is what the musical soundtrack sounds like. I wish I were joking; "mom, mom, MOM, mom...Chris-TEEEE-na....la, la, la,....mom, MOM, mom..."
