Description
While the bulk of the fiction and poetry on this list is culled from the University of Rochester's Three Percent project..."launched in the summer of 2007 with the lofty goal of becoming a destination for readers, editors, and translators interested in finding out about modern and contemporary international literature," other sources such as the long- and shortlists for the Man Asian Literary Prize and PEN American awards were consulted. Many of the titles here were actually published in 2010, so the “2011” designation represents the culmination of the review cycle. Also note: this is a mix of contemporary and deceased writers (Albert Cossery, Louis Couperus, Romain Gary, Tove Jansson, for instance.) who are published by a number of publishing concerns ranging from tiny independents to larger houses. The 2012 list (2011) will be linked from this list as the year goes on and awards accumulate.
