Confessions of A Jane Austen Addict
Confessions of A Jane Austen Addict A Novel By Rigler, Laurie Viera (Book - 2007)

Annotation:For Valentines Day last February, I was in the mood to read something light-hearted and romantic. Thus, I picked up a copy of “Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict” and found myself instantly hooked. Being a huge fan of all things Jane Austen, I fell in love with the time travel premise of the story. Courtney Stone from modern day Los Angeles finds herself one morning in the body of Jane Mansfield in nineteenth century England. Courtney has no idea how she got there. The last thing she remembers is that she’d been nursing a broken heart because she and her fiancé had broken off their engagement. Finding herself in Regency England provides her with the opportunity to find herself again and to explore the culture and customs of another time and place which she only knows through Jane Austen’s novels. But nineteenth century England is not as romantic as one might think it to be. There are the issues of hygiene, technology and outdated rites to deal with. Fans of Austen, chick lit, and romantic comedies should definitely put this one on their reading list. ~ Lora

Rude Awakenings of A Jane Austen Addict
Rude Awakenings of A Jane Austen Addict A Novel By Rigler, Laurie Viera (Book - 2009)

Annotation:After reading the first installment and being instantly hooked, I decided to continue with the sequel. This time the roles are reversed and Jane Mansfield of nineteenth century England finds herself in the body of Courtney Stone in modern day Los Angeles. Talk about a rude awakening! Once again the premise of time travel makes this an exciting and delightful continuation of “Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict.” Jane finds herself in a radically liberal society where people dress and speak much differently from what she is accustomed to. And then there is all this new technology to deal with, from the “delightful glass box in which tiny figures act out scenes from her favorite novel to machines that give light, play music, keep food cold, and even wash clothes…” This story is the exciting continuation of the first book. Personally I loved the sequel even more because it makes you aware of how much we take for granted in our modern day world. The author does a fantastic job of allowing the reader to experience how fast-paced and confusing today’s culture can be. Together these books would make a fantastic romantic comedy for the big screen. I give it two thumbs up. ~ Lora

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo By Larsson, Stieg, 1954-2004 (Book - 2008)

Annotation:This award-winning crime novel has received a lot of positive attention and I wanted in on it. The story is part of a trilogy written by the late journalist and author, Stieg Larsson. At the center of the drama is the middle aged journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, who finds himself at the wrong end of a libel case. Mikael is found guilty and must serve possible jail time. There’s a lot of speculation concerning his own defense in the matter against him. Therefore, an offer by Swedish industrialist and former CEO Henrik Vanger of the Vanger Corporation to solve the cold-case mystery involving the disappearance of his niece, Harriet Vanger, some forty years previously for a cool million couldn’t come at a better time. Soon Mikael finds himself in an intriguing web of lies and family secrets that involves a Nazi past, corporate corruption, a serial killer and violence against women. Lisbeth Salendar, who is the girl with the dragon tattoo, eventually teams up with Mikael. A brilliant computer hacker she’s also an asocial punk who has been victimized and/or misunderstood by authorities throughout her life. Being the odd girl out, Lisbeth is the star of the story. This contemporary and very realistic crime novel puts a total different face on Sweden, which most romanticize as the land of the midnight sun, Ikea, and Pippi Longstocking. ~ Lora

For Keeps
For Keeps By Friend, Natasha, 1972- (Book - 2010)

Annotation:Josie never knew her father, he left before she was even born. It’s been Josie and her mom Kate for 16 years. Suddenly, her father and his family have moved back to town, leaving Josie to question everything in her life, where she came from and who she is. Throw in a boy named Matt Rigby that she can’t keep her hands off of and you have a great coming of age teen novel. I thought this book was a great representation of a mother daughter relationship. ~ Nichole

The Dark Divine
The Dark Divine By Despain, Bree, 1979- (Book - 2010)

Annotation:Grace hasn’t seen Daniel since the fight he had with her brother, almost killing him. When he suddenly returns and Grace can’t fight her feelings for Daniel, her family is almost ripped apart. Even more troubling is the secret that Daniel has hidden from her, the reason he left so many years ago, and what he did to her brother that night. The cliffhanger ending r really makes me wish the sequel would come out sooner. ~ Nichole

Goong Vol. 1 By Pak, So-hŭi, 1978- (Book - 2006, 2002)

The only problem is that she hates the Crown Prince, and he hates her even more! How will they make this arranged marriage work? The British film is full of laughs as it captures the true spirit of Georgia from the books. This movie is highly recommended. ~ Nichole

Friend Of The Family
Friend Of The Family By Grodstein, Lauren (Book - 1020)

Annotation:This was a can’t- put- it- down read for me. In the opening pages, we know that Dr. Peter Dinizoff has been disgraced, estranged from his friends and family, awaiting the outcome of a malpractice complaint. How did it come to this? He pinned his hopes on his 20 yr. old artist son, Alec, a kid who’s had some stumbles along the way. What he couldn’t predict was the spell his best friend’s daughter, Laura, a beautiful, thirty something free spirit with a shocking past, casts on Alec. In only wanting the best for his son, his life unravels. If you like thoughtful family dramas, and a plot that gallops along, check it out. ~ Betsy
