I am very glad that I saw this movie, but with that said, it was an average movie, not great. The scenes were disturbing in it's cruelty and injustice.

An amazing, brutal, wonderful movie that everyone should see. Also, read the book. It should receive 10 stars for the courage to share this story.

July 20, 2014.....After watching this movie, and as I am also currently reading (The Book Thief) I just felt so discouraged with our human race. It got me to thinking that things like this are still going on in the world today, and it just never seems to end. How horrible we are......I guess there just has to be a devil, what else can explain our need to be so cruel to our fellow humans, or even any other living creature for that matter. Needless to say, I went to bed just a little depressed.

This copy of the DVD 12 Years A Slave was received damaged and unwatchable.

I did not think that I would enjoy this one, but I did. Love the fact that Brad Pitt cast himself as a hero.

Performances and music was very strong. Honestly I think that ominous music could have been the only sound in the entire movie and it still would have the impact that it does. I can see why this film won the Oscar but, overall, there's probably nothing here that you haven't seen before except for some of the more graphic scenes.

Well acted. Predictable scenes of abuse & torture, which are hard to watch or comprehend, so be prepared for them. The film displays the Southern thinking of slaves as property or pets, rather than people, better than any other movie. Otherwise, I was disappointed. It was a good movie, but not a great movie.

This movie had potential but it was very slow in places.

It was painful to watch the cruelty inflicted by one human onto another.

I found it thought provoking and reminded me of the modern day homeowner's associations where people destroy each other. This movie was about one race treating the other with disrespect and abuse. In the HOAs it's the same mindset but the color of the skin is often the same.

Nobody should ever be treated like this for any reason. It was hard to watch as it should be.

from IMDb: Bass: The law says you have the right to hold a xyzger, but begging the law's pardon... it lies. Is everything right because the law allows it? Suppose they'd pass a law taking away your liberty and making you a slave?

Edwin Epps: Ha!

Bass: Suppose!

Edwin Epps: That ain't a supposable case.

Bass: Because the law states that your liberties are undeniable? Because society deems it so? Laws change. Social systems crumble. Universal truths are constant. It is a fact, it is a plain fact that what is true and right is true and right for all. White and black alike.
