A big dose of the old 'ultraviolence',.. but what I thought was going to be an absurd story,.. kept pulling me swiftly forward and deeeper down ! Spike Lee delivers, and the actors are more than incredible. Lucky for me that I hadn't seen the original, and was completely absorbed with this captivating suprise !

I think Josh Brolin is a wonderful actor. This movie is good, strange, violent, disturbing and unique. I enjoyed it! Four stars!

I have never watched the remake of a film 1st before on purpose until now.Spike Lee's remake of this foreign film of the same name really makes me want to see the original right now.The ending of this film is so shocking,it made me like it more than i thought i was going to like it period. However,i think the original is going to be superior in comparison to Spike Lee still getting his ''COON'' on in the form of not making films about the real experiences of black people no more period, but i digress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Things were going fine for the first hour. Then they got absurd with the fight scenes. Then they got weird. Really weird. The last 30 seconds make you say "Are you kidding me?".

I found the whole experience rather bland with a twist you can see coming from miles away. The villain also seemed too cartoony for me.

This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it is far from being good. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way. Very predictable

Pretty similar to the original, except they reveal who the antagonist is very early on. One thing I didn't like was how they turned the antagonist into a caricature (think Alfred Ashford from Resident Evil: Code Veronica). In the Korean version, he was a more tragic and sympathetic character.
They hid the twist fairly well.

Chaney (mob boss telling Joe): The last person
that got the better of me,
I tracked her funky ass down
and tortured her for
16 xyzking days.
Now, compared
to what I'm about to do to you,
that was like an ant
xyzking an elephant.

Marie: How do you know that's not him? He seems happy.
Joe: The one who called me doesn't know what happy means.
