Seemed somewhat undeveloped, and like a bit of a manipulative sap fest, but the manipulation worked on me.

A riveting film, very well acted. Truthful, honest and creative directed by a Canadian. Loved Jared Leto in this role. Beauty/ugly, love/hate - so many layers and I remember those times and how devastating it was. The world has come a long way since those times but still a long way to go. Note to fellow reviewers: please do not give a full account as it spoils it for others.

I liked this movie, and he really got into his roll. I found this movie believable, and would watch it again. I did cry in the end though.

A great movie, intense. Painful, remembering when Aids hit, and all the deaths, the aids quilts, and so thankful we have come so far.

Well-made, well-acted character study about a complex man. As Woodroof was a real person, I'd hope that this film was a realistic account. I know Hollywood takes certain artistic license, but it would be disappointing if Woodroof's life and personality were as fictionalized as "Woodley" (below) claims.

Coarse Language: A variety of slurs and about 100 utterances of the f-word are used. The language is vulgar, but there's a purpose to this use of language; it's not used just for the sake of being crude.

  • britprincess1 rated this: 4.5 stars out of 5.

Violence: A fistfight between two men lasts for three punches in quick succession. A man's damaged leg in an accident with heavy machinery is also covered in blood. Both of these scenes are very brief and violence is not a concern in this film.

  • britprincess1 rated this: 4.5 stars out of 5.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: There are a few angry outbursts and suffering is consistent throughout the film. The subject matter itself (as well as McConaughey's transformation for the role) may cause viewers to feel uncomfortable.

Judge: The constitution,
specifically the Ninth Amendment,
does not state that
you have the right
to be mentally healthy
or physically healthy.
It does state
that you have a right
to choose your
own medical care,
but that is interpreted as
medical care that is approved
by the Food and
Drug Administration.
Regarding the FDA, the court is highly
disturbed by its bullying tactics
and direct interference with
a drug whose own agency
has found to be non-toxic.

Judge continued: The FDA was formed
to protect people,
not prevent them
from getting help.
The law doesn't seem to make
much common sense sometimes.
And if a person has been found
to be terminally ill,
they ought to be able to take just
about anything they feel will help,
but that's not the law.
Mr. Woodroof, I'm moved to
compassion by your plight,
but what is lacking here is
legal authority to intervene.
I'm sorry, this case
is hereby dismissed.

Dallas Buyers Club - Official Int'l Trailer (2013) HD

Matthew McConaughey stars in DALLAS BUYERS CLUB as real-life Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof, whose free-wheeling life was overturned in 1985 when he was diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. These were the early days of the AIDS epidemic, and the U.S. was divided over how to combat the virus. Ron, now shunned and ostracized by many of his old friends, and bereft of government-approved effective medicines, decided to take matters in his own hands, tracking down alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal. Bypassing the establishment, the entrepreneurial Woodroof joined forces with an unlikely band of renegades and outcasts - who he once would have shunned - and established a hugely successful "buyers' club." Their shared struggle for dignity and acceptance is a uniquely American story of the transformative power of resilience. Director: Jean-Marc Vallée Writers: Craig Borten, Melisa Wallack Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto
