Item Details

Jane Hayes's adoration of all things Jane Austen is complicating her love life. Determined to be the heroine of her own story, Jane spends her life savings on a trip to Austenland, an eccentric Austen-inspired resort, where she meets two very different gentlemen, but has a difficult time determining where fantasy ends and real life, and maybe even love, begins.

As my mother is an avid Jane Austen fan and I am somewhat myself, we have seen almost every movie even remotely related to her. This movie was light, funny, and romantic. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but after the first few minutes I was completely drawn in. I recommend Austenland to all Jane Austen fans and those who are not.

I'm not sure why I even put this on hold - I wasn't expecting to like it much (probably because I like Keri Russell), but I was happily surprised. Jen Coolidge made me cringe more than once! And it was a successful retelling of P&P alongside modern P&P - dimensional but light. Very cute movie.

Loved this movie. Thought it would be mildly amusing but found myself shrieking with laughter most of the way through. Keri Russell is sweet but her character doesn't really stand out. The character who stole the show was Jennifer Coolidge. Her character was so gleefully, outrageously crass and vulgar. A classic great movie this isn't but it is amusing and pleasant entertainment.

Didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. I think it's because although it seemed as if Keri Russell's character saying she wanted to experience life in the past, she didn't seem to make much of an effort at Austenland. I thought the music was too much imitation of movies like A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger. The movie Lost in Austen is ever so much more entertaining, romantic and historically interesting than Austenland.

This is actually a good movie. I know that this movie didn't get good reviews when it came out, but it's actually very funny. There are touching, yet not corny, moments in the movie as well. The actors were well cast. I didn't think that Keri Russell was going to be that good, but she was great after the first ten minutes. She also had great chemistry with her two love interests, played by JJ Feild and Bret McKenzie. I found JJ Feild to be very funny. (As an aside, Feild was the male lead in the most recent adaptation of Austen's _Northanger Abbey_, which he was splendid in). The only one I found annoying was Jennifer Coolidge. She was overdoing her character a bit too much, but she still had her funny moments. Georgia King was hysterical. I was impressed by this movie. I'll wait until this movie goes on sale to buy it, but I recommend this movie anyway. It's a fun romantic comedy-type movie with an outrageous plot line (which is adapted from a book by Shannon Hale). It's an interesting, if somewhat unusual, story. My one major complaint is that there are all these unrecognizable songs in the movie! I never heard of any of these songs and I wonder what decade they are from. Despite this minor issue, I don't think that you'll regret watching this movie.
