Well, here are 2 things that I quickly learnt while watching this tediously unimaginative "re-imagining" of a so-so horror story from 1976.

(1) - Teens (in their unfathomable capacity to be cruel & hateful) are, today, even worse bullies than they were back 40 years ago. It seems that it's especially the girls who tend to be the most vicious and spiteful in their deliberate treachery towards others.

(2) - Religious fanatics are even more retarded today then you could ever imagine them to be.

Anyways - In what seemed like a "Made-For-TV-Movie" - I thought that both Julianne Moore and Chloe Moretz were utterly despicable in their pathetically annoying portrayals as a mother/daughter wacko team.

I really can't say which one of these 2 actresses I thought stank the worst in their part. Between the brittle Moore forever chewing up the scenery and the bug-eyed Moretz underplaying her part to the point of being a total non-entity, neither of these women showed even the slightest bit of conviction in the parts that they were playing.

This dumb movie contained absolutely no surprises, whatsoever. And making the story more spectacularly gory and violent than the original only served to prove the point that all of the characters in this dimwitted tale were not worth the slightest bit of attention at all.

And, finally - Since when does possessing the gift of telekinesis also include allowing that person the ability to fly?.... Sheesh! Like, give me a break already!

Not a bad remake. The advances in special effects add another dimension. Leads were not as creepy as Piper Laurie & Sissy Spacek. Original ending can not be beat. However, still a decent rendering of Stephen King's novel, whose stories seem to be a challenge to be replicated on screen.

I liked the movie but I thought it could have been way better. I don't get how its a horror movie, it's no where close to a horror movie.

Obviously, this movie has better special effects than the original, but it's not as good as it is. There is more background and it is slightly more correct to the book (except for the setting and fact that Carrie is supposed to be fat, brunette and wear a red dress.) This "Tommy" is more likable in my opinion and although Moretz does a good job, Moore stole the show.

I like you got more background story than the original worth a watch

I think Mortez is way to pretty to be Carrie, but whatever...
The remake wasn't necessary in my opinion.

I'm on the same page with most of the other reviewers -- a decent modern remake that doesn't stray far from the original with Sissy Spacek. Moretz does a good job.

Despite the presence of Julian Moore, this is one of those remakes that simply need not be done. Stick to the original.

Had watched the original a couple years ago. So as I watched this, I kept trying to compare what was the same and what was different. For the most part, it sticks to the original movie's plot of what happened. Some differences, such as you see the group of popular teens in this version texting this clip of Carrie's low point around and posting it on the internet, but besides that, you have just about the same movie, just a modern day version. Both actress in the leading roles did the movie justice in my opinion.
