Dear Library Patrons, The mission of NYPL is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our communities. Government support only pays for a portion of our work, so we rely on you to help - from stocking our shelves with amazing books, expanding our e-Book selection, classes, events, or even making free WiFi accessible to all. We are trying to raise $425,000 by December 31: an ambitious goal, but one that will fund incredible learning and reading in our community. Item Details

In a small seaside Irish town in the late 1950s, two very different children are growing up, shouting their hearts desires into the echo cave, praying that their destiny will lead them far from Castlebay, a place empty and gloomy in winter but bustling with visitors in the gaudy days of summer. One of the children is Clare, shopkeeper Tom O'Brien's younger daughter. She wins a scholarship to University College, Dublin, and seems set for academic glory. The other is David Power, the doctor's son. He dreams of escape, also via Dublin, as a medic. But the path of these two children cross again in a quite unexpected way. Castlebay will draw them back in this drama of ambition, betrayal, before love finally reaches it turbulent conclusion. "David es un estudiante de medicina ansioso por seguir los pasos de su padre y Clare ha conseguidouna beca universitaria. Entre ellos surgirá una llama que les devolverá a Castlebay, donde la bruma matutina y la espuma de las olas serán testigos de una tormentosa historia de amor y ambición, de drama y traición, de sueños y desilusiones..."--
