In the year 2154 two groups of people remain; the extremely wealthy who reside on an immaculate man-made space station named Elysium, and the rest, who occupy an overpopulated, destroyed Earth. Max decides to embark on a mission that could bring equality to the opposed worlds.

The director's good at special effects- too bad about the acting and the storyline as a whole. i just couldn't understand why those on the space station orbiting earth wouldn't build an adequate defense system for those trying to board illegally.

A must for Matt Damon and Jodie Foster fans. A visual treat for anyone. It is a sci-fi movie so of course there are statements about the human condition and an effort to be thought provoking. If you are one of the people thinking this could never happen, think again--The Rape of NanKing, Germany's death camps, South Africa, the Americas' slavery, the attempted genocide in the PNW by Hudson Bay Company, and so many other times that "the people" looked the other way until it was too late.

It appears that director Neill Blomkamp has a thing for allegorical storytelling. His first feature film, District 9, was a tale about Apartheid in South Africa. "Elysium" is, at its core, a story about immigration and health care. In both films, we see a dystopian future Earth, and this time around the setting is an overcrowded Los Angeles. Definitely worth watching.

The first half of the movie is simply stunning, with the awesome sets of the Elysium station. (A similar idea is found in the Ringworld series of novels by Larry Niven.) However, the overall impact of the movie is spoiled by the non-stop battles in the second half. Why build such beautiful sets if the audience is not given time to enjoy them? At least the similar ending of James Bond's Moonraker had some humour in it.

Interesting idea that didn't quite flesh out. Felt like it would have done better with a POC as the lead for better impact, considering nearly every other character on the surface was a POC. The fact that he wasn't seemed really, really off. Off my soapbox, the action was fun and entertaining but this film isn't one that makes you ask questions or actually think. It's fluff at best. Violent and enjoyable, but fluff none the less.

The film looked good (exactly like the set from District 9) and the effects were pretty good. A reasonable piece of entertainment but no more.

This movie was well acted, but too unrealistic. For futuristic movies, there should be more realism. Does anyone really believe that this current society would let an "Elysium" exist?!! It's a really poor outlook on humanity in the future from this one.

Excellent movie. Jodie Foster gave a good performance. Matt Damon's character was truly heroic.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: The whole movie is very intense and probably frightening for kids to watch. Heck, I'm 19 and it was a lot for me.

Violence: Much like District 9, this movie is extremely heavy in the violence department. Although all the action is very well done and the effects are fantastic. This guy knows how to make a serious action movie.

Coarse Language: Probably well over 100 f words and many other smaller swears. It's rated R for a reason.
