As a sequel, it's hard to live up to the first book, especially when you can easily fall into the trap of rehashing what has already happened (re: the Games). So in that respect, this is a good continuation. That being said, the lead up is even slower than the first book, Katniss' inner monologue is even more grating, and the newly introduced characters are too many to really get close to on any level. There are some great things going for it, such as the political commentary and the parody of American media (which made the way we handled the movie advertisements and interviews that much more ridiculous (Team Gale? Team Peeta? In a franchise about glorified violence towards children!?)) but my enjoyment of the series dwindled in this book. I really only picked up the third because of the cliffhanger ending.

i have only read the first so far, but from the sound of these comments, (i am pointing fingers at you Sebbynyb!) it will be much better than the first.
GO SUSAN COLLINS!!!!!!!!!!!

depressing

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is an exciting book form start to finish that will make you want to read more. The book takes place after the Hunger Games when their are riots when Katniss and Peeta go on their victory tour. Then for the 75 Hunger Games, President Snow announces that only past victors of the Hunger Games are to be picked for this year’s games. Katniss is picked and Peeta volunteers for Haymitch. Katniss and Peeta return to the Capitol and prepare for the Games. They train for the games and on the night of the interview Katniss’s dress turns into a Mocking Jay, a symbol of rebellion towards the Capitol. The next day Katniss is sent to her waiting room before the games. Then when she is being sent up into the arena she sees’s Cinna getting beat up by Peace Keepers. Then the games begin and many horrible things happen in the arena like fog that burns you, birds that scream in your ears and large gorillas. Will Katniss or Peeta survive and which one will die? Read the book Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins to find out. The book is very good all together. It is very exciting, and you will not know what will happen next. This is because Katniss wants to do things the right way, she keeps being reminded that in order to save the ones she loves she has to stop the rioting. And you do not what she will do unlike the last book. The book is very good at showing how everything is being affected by the riots in every district. The only negative about the book is that it might be hard to understand what is happening if you have not read the last book. So I suggest that anyone who has not read the last book should read The Hunger Games before Catching Fire. In conclusion, Catching Fire is a great book. It is very exciting with lots of action. But the only downfall is that it might be difficult to understand the book if you have not read the last one.

I have to say that I actually enjoyed this book more than The Hunger Games, and that's saying a lot! The first book in the trilogy was amazing, but the story in Catching Fire was so interesting and unexpected. I have to congratulate Suzanne Collins because not many people can write a sequel that is as good (or in my opinion better) than the original.

these books are really good. i read the first one and loved it! its better than the movie(s), and left me hanging on every word.

Catching Fire is the second book in the Hungers Games trilogy. The three books in this trilogy are; The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mocking Jay, which are told from Katniss Everdeen's point of view. This novel is placed in the future. Katniss lives in a district twelve; one of twelve districts called the Panem, which the Capitol is in control of. There are three parts in the book; The Spark, The Quell and The Enemy.

In the previous book Katniss and Peeta Melllark were tributes in the 74th hunger games. Katniss and Peeta had a fake love story going on to get sponsors to support them. They won and got out of the arena safely. On camera they act like they are truly in love but nobody knows what is actually happening behind the scenes.

The head gamemaker, Secane Crane dies and it's unknown how. Snow replaces Secane with Plutarch Heavensbee, who in secret tries to thrust a rebellion against the Capitol. A year after the games is the 75th which is also called the quarter quell. This year is different instead of the normal way, the Capitol changes it up a bit. The Capitol makes the victors from the previous years get drawn back into the reaping. In the arena Peeta starts falling for Katniss again. While Katniss is in the middle of Gale and Peeta. The results in the quarter quell are unpredictable and changes the Panem forever.

In my own opinion Catching Fire was my favourite book out of the Hunger Games trilogy. I recommend this book for all the Divergent fans and if you are into the science fiction genre.

Out of all three of the hunger games trilogy, Catching fire is my favorite. In this installment Katniss is at her best to me. She sees the hand she's been dealt, she falls apart but picks herself back up in defiance, and tries with all her might to stick to her beliefs to the very end. For me this book showed the true katniss that everyone loves. After reading this one I was ready for the thrid book.

"On the 75th anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes will be reaped from their existing pool of victors."
- President Snow

“I'm going to wake Peeta," I say.
"No, wait," says Finnick. "Let's do it together. Put our faces right in front of his."
Well, there's so little opportunity for fun left in my life, I agree. We position ourselves on either side of Peeta, lean over until our faces are inches frim his nose, and give him a shake. "Peeta. Peeta, wake up," I say in a soft, singsong voice.
His eyelids flutter open and then he jumps like we've stabbed him. "Aa!"
Finnick and I fall back in the sand, laughing our heads off. Every time we try to stop, we look at Peeta's attempt to maintain a disdainful expression and it sets us off again.”

Katniss hopes that now that she has returned back home to District 12 everything will return to normal. But she very soon realizes that things will ever be the same ever again. The berries she once thought were her escape have now planted seeds of rebellion in the districts against the Capitol. Peeta feels betrayed, Gale keeps her at a cold distance and Katniss finds herself lost, confused and alone. Their lives are further complicated with the wildcard of the 75th Hunger Games when it is announced that the tributes will be chosen from the existing pool of victors. Katniss consequently goes into the arena; however, this time she has a very different mindset. She vows to protect Peeta’s life and ensure that he wins no matter the cost. But it soon becomes very obvious that the odds most certainly are not in Katniss’ favor.

Katniss Everdeen had survived the Hunger Games along with her "boyfriend" Peeta Mellark! She hopes that once she returns home, her life can get back to normal. But things will never be the same for Katniss ever again. Prim is more adult than tween, Gale holds her at an icy distance, and Peeta pretty much ignores her.
While living in her new home in the Victor's Village, Katniss learns about the "change" in this year's Hunger Games. Instead of having a new boy and girl tribute from each district compete in the Games, a boy and girl victor from each district will be submitted into one big battle to see which victor survives. Katniss enters the Hunger Games devoted to protecting Peeta's life rather than hers, because this time, there will be only one victor. Katniss may have survived the last Hunger Games, but this time, the odds are most definitely not in her favor.
