Gangster Squad
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless mob king Mickey Cohen runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, guns, and if he has his way, every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop, except for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders who come together to try and tear Cohen's world apart.

Great film Noire! Late '40-set film depicting LA underworld and the elite crew bent on stopping them. Think "Untouchables" set on the West coast. Killer cast too!

This is a fantastic film. Every character played their part well. It's based on a true story which makes it more intriguing. There is some brutal violence in it so be aware of that. Overall very well done.

I could appreciate what might be an attempt here from the director and producers to try to do something different for the Gangster genre, but the violence in this entire film is so cartoon styled or comic book like or video game like i cannot respect this film nor give it a pass. The violence in this movie makes me kind of think that this is like that ''Dick Tracy'' movie that was shot in color featuring blood.I wish the violence would have been supervised and shot more gritty and realistic instead of amateurish and uninspired like this film really is unfortunately. It's the director and producers that screwed up what clearly could have been another good Gangster film period. If the writer of this film's script DEMANDED comic book or video game style violence than they are the blame for this crappy Gangster film too.At least it is very violent though,BUT I DIGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A group of good cops in LA took on the powerful, law-protected gangsters in the 40's. In doing so they risk their lives and the lives of their families. With plenty of violence, and a 40'ish back drop, this is a pretty entertaining film to watch if you like this genre. The happy ending is a bonus.

Well done, action laden pic of the Gangster era, and two strong leads in Josh Brolin, and Sean Penn in opposing roles hold their own in this latter 1940's period piece. Absolute pleasure to see.

Twenty minutes in, about the time when an Avenger-esque team was being assembled, I said, "Hey, I like this movie." The characters are interesting, the plot takes unexpected turns and I wanted to see how everything turned out. The movie is very stylized, with a comic book quality to it: "Roger Rabbit" meets "The Untouchables". As a result the characters fulfill stereotypical roles. I do warn that it is extremely violent. Sean Penn's character employs vicious methods of revenge. The ending is a big disappointment - cliche and overly sentimental.

There are some really good things about this movie. Then there are some very lame things. It falls into formula, anything original or interesting disappears. I yelled several times at the tv, "Oh come on, give me a break." It's that kind of movie.

This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it is far from being good. Very predictable but still entertaining.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's all a bit over the top, but meant to be. Some of it (especially in night scenes) seemed shot in high-res video (as opposed to film) which always looks too TV-ish to me, but I thought the film and performances were very good, with the possible exception of Ryan Gosling who, for want of a better term, seemed less 1940s-manly than the rest of the male cast.

Violence: Plenty of violence and gore, including a scene in which a man is torn apart by two cars.
