As a longtime fan of Mark Bittman I enjoyed this book, but not as much as some of his other work. In this book Bittman outlines his health plan - to lose weight, stay healthy and reduce his chances of heart disease and diabetes he became Vegan Before 6pm. Thus, from breakfast to dinner he would eat vegan and then eat meat, fish or dairy with dinner. As a former vegetarian, and someone who now considers herself to be a "flexitarian" I found this to be an interesting book. However, it is much more of a diet/cook book then it is a philosophical look at meat consumption in Western diets, or a health journalistic look at the issue. But, as is usual for Bittman, the recipes are good. Recommended for those interested in improving their health or looking for healthy and delicious recipes. Also great for those who need ideas about what to cook for vegetarians.
