It’s not a good sign if, instead of actually reading the book, I’d rather be covering up the “GL” on the cover and yelling “BACK THAT THANG UP!”

Which, for the record, still hasn’t gotten old…

Let’s start with the beginning. It’s 8 pages into the book, and Celaena, our heroine, has just met Dorian, the crown prince. To her chagrin, he’s an Adonis. But “Princes are not supposed to be handsome!....This one….this….How unfair of him to be royal and beautiful.” But that’s OK, because she’s already met mysterious handsome guy #2, Chaol. Like, seriously? IT’S PAGE 8. I can understand wanting to cut to the chase, but PAGE 8 IS TOO EARLY FOR A LOVE TRIANGLE.

Finally, a REAL fantasy heroine! I must say though that I had my doubts as Caelena was often mentioned as "the assassin" while doing close to nothing that warranted that title...at first...book 2 in the series is even BETTER.

I absolutely adored this book. I stayed up all night reading it. She's a bit self centered but it really rounds out her character. This book will entrance you till the end, and make reading the second book a need to do action.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book. Some people are annoyed by Celaena's arrogance and vanity but I think it's natural for people to want to look good and just because she is an assassin doesn't make her an exception.
