This movie is truly magnificent, I was simply moved by the characters. How at the start, the charismatic, the exquisiteness of PI's early life filled me with excitement. And mourning of the lost of his parents and brother was unbearable. Then starts a journey of endurance, which had breath taking features.

I loved this movie (maybe because I have some Indian in-laws and appreciate Hindu sensebilities). Anyways, great story & cinematography!

I had been meaning to see this movie for a while but unfortunately, it failed to live up to the hype for me. Yes it is beautifully shot, yes the main boy character is engaging and yes the stormy seas sequences were well done but the sequences with the CGI animals robbed the film of any depth or meaning for me. I know no one could have filmed a movie like this with real animals and subject them to the kind of treatment the screenplay provided. I am not sure how this could have been done for me to like it but knowing all the emotions and life of the tiger character (and the other animals as well...) were courtesy of some computer programming made it hard for me to connect to this, and perhaps unlike others, really be touched by the story. It is a perfect metaphor though for the world we live in today though. Fake emotions, programmed by others, to try and tug at your heart's strings, isn't that the norm for a lot of people ?

This movie is beautiful. Just absolutely beautiful. The shift between the story and the telling of it were smooth and made for some really amusing moments. The cinematography was just breathtaking. I really enjoyed the ending, which I won't spoil for anyone, but it just made the whole thing work so well. Lovely, definitely owning and rec'ing.

This was my third time watching the movie, and I love it more and more each time. It's really well-written and really well-produced. Yann Martel is a great author and needs to be given more credit than he gets. There needs to be more movies like this!

I really thought this would not be up my alley as a not terribly sentimental person, but there was something just so lovely about this film - the story captivated and kept moving constantly, the delivery of the story and editing between modern day, scenes on the boat, and recounting of earlier times was great. I couldn't even quite capture why I liked it so much, I just thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

I wasn't sure I would like this movie, thinking it might be kind of slow. I haven't read the book, and have only seen trailer ads on TV. But, I never got bored. I was riveted. The director did an incredible job filming the animals and the ocean scenes. Fantastic cinematography. I wouldn't say this is on my all time favorites list, but I would highly recommend.

From book on God & hope (2 of 2):
At such moments I tried to elevate myself. I would touch the turban I had made with the remnants of my shirt and I would say aloud, “This is God’s hat!”

I would pat my pants and say aloud, “This is God’s attire!” I would point to Richard Parker and say aloud, “This is God’s cat!”

I would point to the lifeboat and say aloud, “This is God’s ark!”

I would spread my hands wide and say aloud, “These are God’s wide acres!”

I would point at the sky and say aloud, “This is God’s ear!”

And in this way I would remind myself of creation and of my place in it.

From book on God & hope (1 of 2):
I practised religious rituals that I adapted to the circumstances—solitary Masses without priests or consecrated Communion hosts, darshans without murtis, and pujas with turtle meat for prasad, acts of devotion to Allah not knowing where Mecca was and getting my Arabic wrong. They brought me comfort, that is certain. But it was hard, oh, it was hard. Faith in God is an opening up, a letting go, a deep trust, a free act of love—but sometimes it was so hard to love. Sometimes my heart was sinking so fast with anger, desolation and weariness, I was afraid it would sink to the very bottom of the Pacific and I would not be able to lift it back up.

Adult Pi Patel: "You know, I've left so much behind: my family; the zoo; India; Anandi... I suppose, in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go. But what always hurts the most... is, not taking a moment to say goodbye... I was never able to thank my father for all I've learned from him... To tell him, without his lessons... I would never have survived..."
