Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a Dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

I liked this movie. I had seen another movie ("Kill Katie Malone") based on the same story about a month earlier, told from the college kid who bought the box on ebay. This one was far better and if you really want to install some fear, watch the special features, THAT is far scarier than most "horror movies" nowadays.

Well, really, what did I expect? What was delivered is a slightly-better-than average B movie played upon the same, very tired theme. No revelations here (and no pun intended). The original Friedkin still packs the punch, and no retread yet has come anywhere near it. This one, if you will, has a Yiddishe demon. From Poland, no less. It’s a shtetl demon, very low class. And a Hasidic exorcist. (his name should have been Ken Ahora). It also has a very literal scene, where the face of the demon appears in an MRI. Somewhere above the spleen, I believe. Also, the movie opens with the disclaimer “Based upon a true story”. Really? REALLY? Kyra Sedgwick shame on you…THIS drek you choose to be in?

This movie was a typical ghost film. The lead actresses were very attractive though. I was more scared of the special features of the real divax box.

This is boring. The "malevolent force" needs more personality.

Jewish version of a little girl possessed by demons but failed to come anywhere close to any of the classic Exorcist series. The short documentary on a Dibbuk Box was a worthwhile watch. Also reminds me of the lyrics from PHIL HARRIS "The Thing": I picked it (a wooden box he found at the beach) up and ran to town As happy as a king I took it to a guy I knew Who'd buy most anything But this is what he hollered at me As I walked in his shop "Oh, get out of here with that... Before I call a cop" "Oh, get out of here with that... Before I call a cop" etc.

Creepy at times but not scary.

Another exorcism movie about the monsters of puberty within young girls and the male archetype needing to save them from themselves.

My daughter and I actually went to the theater to see this movie. We actually laughed (and other movies goers) I am not sure how it would be on a television but the sound was used to shock, very loud, I had to cover my ears. If nothing to watch go for it but don't expect to get too creeped out.

The story was just enough to keep me interested, otherwise it was nothing special. Like everyone else has said so far, it was a very typical exorcism movie. Most of it was quick shots of creepy images, underwhelming reactions from the characters, and a lot of research. All of the action was right at the end, and personally was not enough for me. If you're someone that likes exorcism movies and the fact that they're all alike, then this would be great for you. If you're someone who's looking for something truly frightening or unique, I wouldn't even bother.
