While the multiple high-speed chases, detailed futuristic technology, and nonstop action will probably appeal to many, I view all that as window dressing for an altered story line which, in my opionion, is not an improvement over the original.

( 3 out of 5 stars ) Worth seeing,.. but not as good as I had expected ! And I LOVE this genre. Fast and loud and expensive. Its O.K., but try to see the first one,.. for the much better story-telling. ...P.S. I just saw it again ! (on 1-10-14) ,.. and its better the second time around (lower expectations ?). Mostly its a lot of chasing,.. but with very well done CGI effects, etc. ( ...changed the rating to four stars.)

If you think this is a simple remake, you are mistaken. Story line is different. Beautiful cinematography throughout, the movie was better than I anticipated. Action throughout.

perfect form. no content. best adaptation of Philip K Dick's ideas is the one season's worth of the series "Total Recall 2070" (22 episodes)

Loved the action... I was a bit skeptical since I'm such a big fan of the original but... it turned out to be pretty awesome.

this movie was the normal mistaken "identity that turns out to be real" movie... I've seen a dozen like it so it was not my favorite movie. also it is very long but since it was free I don't mind.

An ordinary man decided to experience a virtual adventure but was interrupted before the journey began. Nonetheless, he was being hunted immediately and made to believe that his former life was a super agent to infiltrate the resistance movement ... nonstop action and visually stunning special effects.

The real star of the show is the CGI work they did creating the look and feel of the future dystopia. I liked looking at the backgrounds and city scapes. And I like that the story, like so many sci fi films, mines the worlds of Philip K Dick. As an action movie it is quite credible and fast moviing, and Farrell does a pretty good job. It's not the film Blade Runner was, but it easily holds its own with the previous Total Recall.

This movie, I find, reflecting on it a week after watching it, is utterly forgettable. How disappointing, since the premise is so good and the original needed updating. Colin Farrell is a fairly good choice, but Kate Beckinsale hasn't created a character any different from the one she presents in her "Underrworld" series. If you want to watch endless chases and battles and dizzying special effects this is for you.
