Add a CommentFrom the very beginning the film left loose ends. The gestures and speech were more "2008" than "1968." Action_wise it was good. The music could have been better. The soul was lacking. These actresses obviously didn't anything about "being uptight, living in a world of ghetto life." The biggest problem was the message for young girls to folllow their dreams in the music business. Pure devil's bidding.
not as good as original
An alright film concerning the music industry.
i saw the movie and I had liked it the music was good and the singing this is based on a true story this isnot for children to watch
I thought I liked this movie and then I caught the end of "Dream Girls" on TV and realized that this didn't compare to it. There were some good parts. It was nice to see Whitney one more time and here her voice, but some of the other performances felt a bit stale.
Great and powerful movie. Loved it !! Five stars.
I was rooting for this remake but alas it just did not do the original justice. There were so many ridiculous general discrepancies especially in regards to the onstage costumes although many of them were beautiful. I felt like Derek Luke was replaying P.Diddy all over again and making Mike Epps a comedian instead of a gangster as in the original was a bad choice. That being said he didn't do an awful job. But the biggest error was in choosing Carmen Ejogo as Sister. I like her as an actress but she just did not sell it for me the way I thought she should have. Not to say the whole movie was bad. There were highlights such as Whitney and Jordan's performances and also the dinner scene as well as the scene with the three ladies and Mike Epps.
I thought this movie was good. Powerful movie.
The DVD - "Sparkle" - did not work, not at all. The other DVDs that I'd checked out ALL did work, so I watched them.
a pretty good movie. it was a little slow starting out but it picked up pretty quickly
