Quotes
Add a Quote“Old Took's great-granduncle Bullroarer...was so huge (for a hobbit) that he could ride a horse. He charged the ranks of the goblins of Mount Gram in the Battle of the Green Fields, and knocked their king Golfibul's head clean off with a wooden club. It sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit-hole, and in this way the battle was won and the game of Golf was invented at the same moment.”
"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty hole filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort."

Add a CommentThis is one of my favorite books. I suggest it to anyone who likes fantasy, or the Harry Potter books. As well as anyone who knows anything, read, played, or whatever else dealing with the Lord of the Rings.
if you want to start reading fantasy you should start from here
Amazing book! I am a huge fan of Tolkien.
This book is amazing! I love Tolkien....he's one of the best authors and this book will NOT disappoint. especially if u are a LOTR fan. I've read this book and seen the movie 7 times....they're both awesome
This, in my view, is one of Tolkien's best. I have read it four times and enjoyed it more each time. If you want to understand Peter Jackson's recent Film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, you should read this book. Although, if you don't like long reads, this book is not for you.
Classic fantasy fiction that comes to life with the adventure of Bilbo, the dwarves and Golum through Middle Earth. Loved the imagery and imagination used to create this world. Look forward to reading the Middle Earth trilogy to get to the know the characters even more. Loved how Bilbo challenges himself and takes intiatives to survive and not relying on Gandolf or the others. Kudos to Bilbo, the treasurer hunter!
The beginning is good, but after that it's pretty slow until the end, but then it gets really good. I've heard mixed comparisons between this and Lord of the Rings. Some people like Lord of the Rings and don't like this and vice versa. I don't know yet, but I hope Lord of the Rings is good!
I don't normally read fantasy, but my book club chose this. I'm enjoying it more than I expected. A lot more. Tolkien's style is wonderful as he transports you on a wild journey with an unassuming everyman hero.
Dieng for the movie
such an amazing book, something everyone MUST read
