More like a ferocious medieval folk tale than Scorsese's usual look into modern gangster culture, this packs a lot of actual historical information into an epic recreation of the birth of New York City's (and the US's) history of violence. That 5-Points set is worth the price of admission. (Walk down to Columbus Park in Chinatown today and try not to be moved!) Stir that up with probably the most incredible role ever played by the great Daniel Day Lewis as the historically inspired Bill the Butcher..........WOOPSADAISY!

In 1863, Amsterdam Vallon returns to the Five Points area of New York City seeking revenge against Bill the Butcher, his father's killer.

This film reeks of epicness! Erin go Bragh!

Lots of blood, and not all that much plot. What plot there is seems problematic. Why does a Catholic priest have a son? In the climactic fight, the gangs appear to be completely overshadowed by the riot, kinda rendering the whole thing pointless. Maybe that *is* the point: violence, and the movie, has no point.

One of the best movies I have seen thus far! Acting is amazing by all the characters and Day-Lewis outshines himself in thus one. A MUST SEE MOVIE

The acting in this movie ranges from great to good. Daniel Day-Lewis is wonderful as The Butcher. And DiCaprio does a fantastic job as Amsterdam. This movie is very long and drawn out, but I very much enjoyed this film. I would recommend everyone see this movie at least once.
