This is an awesome version of Batman showing that he was not always as invincible as he has been.

Good art by Frank, but I still found myself wondering what the point to the whole exercise was. A self contained alternate version of the Batman's origin changes a few key details, with a different look... but in the end, it doesn't really feel like it contributes to the mythos. Maybe it's the writing that feels tired to me. Geoff Johns, who seems to be handling much of DC, doesn't have a particularly good take on Batman in his Justice League series, and this standalone version seems rather listless and uninspired.

'Batman: Earth One' is very much worth reading. It naturally "reinvents" Bruce Wayne's parent's death - but in a "hmm - yah, that could be possible" alternate story. I will not tell you the surprises - you need to take out this book and enjjoy!. Not to be dismissed! The storyline and graphics are great! Kudos to the DC team for this book!

5 star graphic novel entertainment. A fine addition to the possible chronicles of the Dark Knight. This one is an alternate world story, and is beautifully drawn in a dark pulp style and moves briskly forward without missing out on good character portraits and local color. Best of show goes to Alfred.
