The last two singles in the group observe the effect that kids have had on their friends' relationships and wonder if there's a better way to make it work. When they decide to have a child together, and date other people, their unconventional 'experiment' leads everyone in the group to question the nature of friendship, family, and, above all, true love.

Add a QuoteYou think that we don't love each other? You know, I have loved this girl for nineteen years, Ben. That is fully half my life. I know everything there is to know about her. I know the mood she's in when she wakes up in the morning - always happy, ready for the day. Can you imagine? I know that she is honest; she won't even take the little shampoo bottles from the hotel room, or sneak into the movie theater for a double feature. She always buys a second ticket. Always. I know that we have the same values, we have the same taste, we have the same sense of humor. I know that we both think that organized religion is completely full of shit. I know that if she is ever paralyzed from the neck down, she would like me to unplug her - and I will. I know her position on just about everything, and I am on board. I am on board with everything about her, so you tell me, Ben. What better woman could I have picked to be the mother of my child?

Add a CommentIt took me a while to get into the movie. It seemed stupid at first, but then the movie ended up being a nice romantic chic flick about relationships.
If you're a teen or a twenty-something looking for laugh-a-minute raunch, then there's not much in here for you. If you're raising or raised a family, and struggled to be there for your spouse and your kids, without losing yourself somewhere in there, then you will enjoy this movie. There is a bit of a lewd edge to ithe dialogue; if you find that offensive, be forewarned. This was a pleasure to view. Watch this one with your husband and enjoy.
...ugh....'nough said.
People sometimes feel pressured to have kids just because their friends all have kids.
I wouldn't call this too intelligent and sophisticated for the audience it skewers, but more too crude. I personally didn't enjoy or believe that a group of "grown-ups" would sit around discussing female anatomy, but then I don't live in New York. There is very little original in this script to pull me into this movie and the crude dialogue only served to further push me away. It seemed more to me that when the movie really needy something witty to say on a subject, it turned to vulgarity instead. The only "observation" this movie makes on how children affect a relationship, is how they affect your sex life. There should be more to a relationship than that.
Better than I thought it would be! Unconventional parenting situation.
Great movie for grown-ups about people who give-up and move to Brooklyn. LMAO. Perhaps too intelligent and sophisticated for the audience it skewers. The writing, full of wry observations and witty dialogue, asks a lot of smart questions about marriage and about our slavish devotion to children in a society that doesn;t really like children. The director (a woman, believe it or not...) pulls together a great ensemble cast of New York actors who are all dead-on in their roles. This is definately Woody Allen country. Kudos all around. (Sidebar: for fans of the TV series "Queer As Folk," this script will seem familiar. Both of the "married" dykes in that show decided to have a baby with a gay male friend as father. It was too precious for words. Last year's indie flik "Gayby" also explored friends trying to have a baby together. )
Boring and stupid. Not funny and rather crude and unrealistic. Waste of time.
Could you have a baby with your best friend and not fall in love with him or her?
Skip It – Friends With Kids (2011) 104 min. A film of this nature which exposes a varying lifestyle begs the viewer to weigh in with an opinion. In fact, one of the characters finally explodes and tells the couple exactly what he thought of two friends having a child without any emotional connection. I thought this is what the film needed. Unfortunately, the same guy ups and leaves his wife. Strike out! Though the film doesn’t work as a comedy or drama or even a speculative fiction piece (I’ll come to that later) the film does excel in demonstrating society’s incredible fortitude to remain extremely SELFISH; regardless of who’s hurt in the process. As long as the focus is on “me”, then life is good. Wrong! The film doesn’t work as a comedy because of its reliance on crude language to elicit humour and the fact that the main characters are as likeable as flies on a cake. I was not amused or entertained. Did I mention the terrible ending?
