Don't bother with this film unless you plan to make it a family affair. It is the All-Star Superman comic series with chunks missing and some of the remaining bits rewritten. It seems that between the attitude we have in North America that "animated films must be for kids", and a too small time budget, this story got watered down to make it accessible to young fans. Unfortunately, in the process of making it friendly for kids...the story lost much of its flavour. The original series is short...read that instead of watching this.

Considering I haven't read any Superman comic books in about 20 years I really liked All-star Superman. It had enough DC universe back story and other characters to keep it interesting but not too much to make it hard for those not familiar with the expanded universe. It also does a great job playing out the interrelationship between Superman, Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Lex Luthar. This helped satisfy my Superman craving now that Smallville is finished. Highly recommended.

One of the better DC animated features, based on an excellent series; however, this felt a little cold and incomplete. Recommended but with reservations.
