I was so frustrated at this cliffhanger, but I was again at City of Fallen Angels. This book really made me think about Sebastian and how he desperately, deep down, just wants to be loved, to know someone loves him. But valentine beat his arrogance and violence and greed for power too deep, and he has no idea how to make Clary love him. So he tries to force her to love him, but she of course doesn't and he tried to set up a pretend world where Jace was his friend. So all he really wants is for Clary to want him the way she wants Jace. This particular book is definitely the slowest of the series, City of Ashes just a little better. It's so BORING at some parts. I absolutely adore the Mortal Instruments, but this book is incredibly hard to read. And Clary is INCREDIBLY annoying in this book. The only thing she cares about is saving Jace, and basically says screw everything else. She used to be really awesome, like in City of Bones when she smacked Jace and went into a hotel full of vampires to save Simon. But in this, I honestly didn't like how she acted. And Isabelle was annoying as well.

this book was good but at the same time felt like way to much intimate sex scenes. at first it made you really think Sebastian had changed but nope! wanting to sleep w/ your sister when you know shes your sister is just nasty!

I really enjoyed it! But be warned there is quite a bit of content that I would not suggest for children under 13yrs old.
Personal opinion, don't hate!

I love this series, but this book punched me in the face!! Why, Cassandra Clare, why!?

Clary seems to have become a really shallow character now and I really can't relate to her at all now... I actually kept wanting to skip her parts in the book and just keep reading about Simon, she was so boring and insanely... well, I can't even really call it love, that's how ridiculous she is . The plot has become really predictable and I really wish Cassandra would have the guts to go in a completely unexpected direction. This book was all romance with little-to-no plot development (Read danomcd 's review)... I got really interested in this series in the first book or two... now the quality seems to keep dropping every book I read. I loved the action in the first few, now it's just a shallow romance novel where the romance doesn't even seem romantic, just stupid. Please step it up a notch Cassandra Clare!!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE The Mortal Instruments books and am about to start City of Heavenly Fire. However, in all honesty, you could skip this book in the series. The only important thing that happens is "Sebastian" and Jace are connected (as seen in City of Fallen Angels) and in this one you know that if Sebastian is killed while they're connected, Jace will die, too. Clary gets all whiny and goes off by herself to save the day and eventually Jace and Sebastian are separated (wow, shocker.) Oh, and Alec teams up with Camille to try and make Magnus mortal for selfish reasons that little prick.
Seriously, I summed it up in three sentences. Don't waste your time. Just read the first four, then the prequels (The Infernal Devices series) to understand more about Magnus and Camille and then read the last book. Oh, and Magnus's online stories if you have time.

I have to say that I lost a lot of respect for Clary in this book. I am not sure why Ms. Clare decided to turn the character into such a light weight. Basically all she cares about is Jace (even the evil one) and is willing to see the world burn rather then hurt him. Is that really love?
The description makes it sound like Clary is an integral part of the plan to stop Sebastian but really her role is more accidental. Simon carries the majority of the work.

One of my favorite series, very addicting and the ending keeps you hooked on, waiting for the next book. Can't wait for City of Heavenly Fire!

"Dammit, women, you read my mind," he [Jace] said. "Is there no filthy wordplay you can't foresee?"
"it's my soecial magic power. I can read your mind when you're thinking dirty thoughts."
"So, ninety-five percent of the time."
She [Clary] craned her head back to look up at him. "nintety-five percent? What's the other five percent?"
"Oh, you know, the usual— demons I might kill, runes I need to learn, people who've annoyed me recently, people who've annoyed me not so recently, ducks."
He waved her question away.

She turned and looked at him. "Ducks?" She said again.
A smile tugged the edge of his mouth. "I hate ducks. Don't know why. I just always have."

"remember when i told you i was 90 percent shure giving you a rune would kill you and then you slaped me in the face and told me it was for the other 10 percent"

Jun 25, 2013

"Does she still love you?"
"I don't think so," Magnus said dryly. "She wasn't very pleasant the last time I saw her. Of course, that could be because I've got an eighteen year-old boyfriend with a stamina rune and she doesn't."
Alec sputtered. "As the person being objectified, I ... object to that description of me."

Jun 25, 2013

"Do you remember,” he said, “when we first met and I told you I was ninety percent sure putting a rune on you wouldn’t kill you—and you slapped me in the face and told me it was for the other ten percent?” Clary nodded.
“I always figured a demon would kill me,” he said. “A rogue Downworlder. A battle. But I realized then that I just might die if I didn’t get to kiss you, and soon.” Clary licked her dry lips. “Well, you did,” she said. “Kiss me, I mean.”
He reached up and took a curl of her hair between his fingers. He was close enough that she could feel the warmth of his body, smell his soap and skin and hair.
“Not enough,” he said, letting her hair slip through his fingers. “If I kiss you all day every day for the rest of my life, it won’t be enough."

Jun 25, 2013

"He grinned. It was a wicked grin, the kind that made the blood in Clary's veins run a little faster. "You want to go on a date?"
Caught off guard, she stammered. "A wh-what?"
"A date," Jace repeated. "Often 'a boring thing you have to memorize in history class,' but in this case, 'an offering of an evening of blisteringly white-hot romance with yours truly."
"Really?" Clary was not sure what to make of this. "Blisteringly white-hot?"
"It's me," said Jace. "Watching me play Scrabble is enough to make most women swoon. Imagine if I actually put in some effort."

Jun 25, 2013

"I stabbed you. With a massive sword. You caught on fire."
His lips twitched, almost imperceptibly. "Okay, so maybe our problems aren't like other couples."
