The story of the Tuskeegee Airmen is a great story from history. Lucas basically ruins it with his over use of green screen, exaggeration of things that are possible, and his poor writing. The actors did the best job they could with what they were given, it's on Lucas not them. Here's a hint George, a fighter aircraft can't sink a destroyer with just machine gun fire. Some of the idiotic things Lucas did showed that he failed to understand the Tuskeegee Airmen and failed to do his research.
Semi-inspiring historical action war movie featuring the Tuskagee Airmen (black WWII fighter pilots). The acting talents of Gooding Jr. and Howard are wasted while the five or so pilot leads are underwhelming. The special effects are good, and the dogfights are entertaining, but I expected more and was disappointed. Worth watching, but go in not expecting to be blown away.
See it! Full of action, violent in the beginning and throughout, for a mature 12.9 and older. Really for 14 years and older will love it! We enjoyed it!
A fine period look and feel, and a gripping story, and very nice CGI.. There were a lot of clichés, but these guys were just ordinary joes doing heroic jobs.
it the best one i ever seen in my life
Good – Red Tails (2012) 125 min. Terrific aerial special effects and a well paced and beautifully shot film in Italy make this an enjoyable film experience. The only reservation is that the film is loaded with preachy sentiments that could be relegated to one scene only. Though it was refreshing to see a lack of racial tension between an Italian woman who’s daughter was being courted by a black American pilot left me wondering the authenticity of this truly occurring given the time period of the early 1940s. Perhaps native Italians were less racists than the Americans who were fighting a war on their land – need to research this one.
The story of the Tuskegee airmen is a good one to tell; however, this film undermines the heroism of the real life epic by being trite. The acting is overly staged, and the script is at times childish. The continuity of the film is broken up by illogical emotional leaps. For example, after bombing a truck and a train, with no thought for the lives lost or the risks taken, the camera shoots the airmen giggling as their planes do aerials. I'm not convinced by in "Lightening's" romance with Sophia. The two become engaged despite the fact that they've never actually communicated with each other; one speaking only English, the other only Italian. The men's language, posturing, and manner are more akin to today's culture then that of 1945, and the modern score for the movie also contributes to this confused setting. The movie was frustrating for me to watch because I wanted it to be so much better.
Good action ,.. but these heros deserved better writing.
This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”.
