Another wonderful read - though I must say the description here doesn't have much to do with the actual contents...discipinary problem at her daughter's school? other than one bedtime conversation, that isn't a case she works on that I remember - it is just a sensitive side story. The bigger story is getting more involved with the Apprentices and their back story - the orphan farm and its fearless leader - and as others have mentioned, Mr Anderson himself. Enjoy!

Charming as usual. A pleasant break from what I usually read. It's nice to go back to a series where I know all the characters already. I was a little disappointed in Clovis Andersen, though.

Another in this charming series. Going to a place where people are gracious and mannered is a lovely break. (I am not surprised that anyone expecting a detective or legal thriller would be disappointed and quite baffled. This series is hardly what one would normally classify as 'mystery fiction'.) These are gentle women dispensing advice and solving personal problems. If you are in the mood for that, this series is unequalled.

Yes, they are slight and forgettable, but they are feel good books and Mma Ramotswe is always endearing.

I love mystery and detective books, but I couldn't get over the writing style and gave up after 80-something pages, before the mystery began. I don't think it's "quaint" to have characters talking nonsense over and over like simpletons. For example, by now I have read at least 5 times that the assistant PI has a diploma stating her grade was 97% in secretarial school.

Delightful 357 page trip to Botswana, a beautiful country with people as dear as they appear in the book. In many African countries, a woman of 'traditional build' is a good thing as it means her husband is well off enough to take good care of his wife. I will enjoy more return trips to Botswana in the pages of Smith's books.

Alexander McCall Smith turns out another charming Precious Ramotswe book. Mma Potokwane is losing her job. One of Mr JMB Matekone's assistants is arrested for aiding and abetting a stolen car ring. Mma Makutsi and her new husband are building the house of their dreams, but something is not quite right about the contractor. And Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi have a VIP visitor! McCall Smith's love of Botswana permeates these delightful books.

I enjoy this charming series very much. It was a good break from more serious books. Reading these books is like coming home to the old neighborhood to find all the familiar people with their little quirks, life problems, but thoroughly enjoyable and loveable! The gentle humor adds to the joy of the read.
