Oskar is convinced that his father, who died in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, has left a message for him hidden in the city. Feeling disconnected from his grieving mother and driven by an active mind that refuses to believe in things that can't be observed, Oskar begins searching New York City for the lock that fits a mysterious key he found in his father's closet. His journey through the five boroughs takes him beyond his loss to a greater understanding of the world around him.

I give it a 4star rating, very good. The storyline/plot was good, the characters were sympathetic and believable, nice camera work, not too slow and a nice ending. Will definitely watch it again, if I can.

Quiet, thoughtful, painful, and kind. That's how I'd describe this movie. It was definitely intense but in a slow way that built up well through the film. Loved the slow reveal of everything and little touches to each character that made them seem more real. Grief handled in so many ways.

This is a movie about how a young boy (old before his time in some ways) experiences regret and trauma. I believe its intentions were also to be a feel-good movie -- in that it succeeds in a minor way. In exploring the complexity of people, I would give it an A+. But as far as the bombing being "meaningless" and the mother not getting why anyone would bomb a major american building that was not sellable. All in all - worthwhile use of time to those who enjoy drama and exploring unique characters.

This is like the movie "Julie and Julia," except set against the backdrop of 9/11 instead of cooking. In other words, I didn't like it.

Very heartwarming and endearing movie. Definitely worth the watch whether you've been touched personally by 9/11 yourself or not.

Good story, great script. Very convincing performance by the young boy. All casts did very well to make the movie both touching and funny. Highly recommended for all ages.

A very emotional film about a family, specifically a nine-year-old boy with an obstinate personality, picking up the pieces after a loss in 9/11. The emotional performances in EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE are raw and pull on the heartstrings. The first half of the film is very slowly paced, which I must assume is why so many people drop off and don't make it through this film, while the second half of the film is far more involved and more interesting. I thought I was made of stone until about three-quarters of the way through, when I felt myself getting misty-eyed. I would absolutely recommend this film.

I'm not really a drama movie lover yet, since Mr. Hanks and Ms. Bullock were in this I gave it a look-see. Great movie! I cried and laughed at the same time.
