Comment
Add a CommentRead the book several months back. Written like a news article you'd read in the Times or Wall St. Journal. Interesting that the Obama Administration hasn't refuted anything written in the book either because they choose to ignore it, or refuse to admit events in it. Reader should make their own mind up by reading it, either way.
I've not read the book but the fact that Edward Klein describes Obama as 'ideologically far to the left' makes me dismiss it outright. Now that we're on the crest of his possible second term, we've come to learn that Obama is not liberal enough for the progressives, and not conservative enough for the Tea Party Congress. In the end, he's very centrist. Though he does sympathize with the social issues that mean a lot to me, gay rights as far marriage, serving in the military and bullying as well women's health care, he's been pretty tough killing Bin Laden and using drones to get Al Qeada extremists, unfortunately killing innocent people along the way.
I read a lot of Edward Klein books and most of the people he writes about I am a fan of...so again I read and take this book with a grain of salt!!!!
I've heard a lot about this book - would like to read it and make my own opinion. Alas, it's not available through the BPL.
Enough with the Obama bashing already. Maybe what this country needs is to let these idiot Republicans run the country for four years. After that I doubt you would see another Republican elected for another 100 years.
I've been perplexed by much of Obama's presidency. While I was never a supporter his relationship with his base has been hard to fathom, Mr. Klein has provided useful clarification. This book deals almost exclusively with Obama's actions as President, and relationships with supporters. I've read other material concerning Obama, much about his unusual personal narrative or future plans. This one, while not always attributed (sometimes for obvious reasons) deals with the Obama's disdain for politics which has often limited his effectiveness at pursuing his agenda.
I anticipated Klein would provide attributable evidence of Obama's alleged amateurism (and arrogance) of Obama. Unfortunately, Klein relies most heaviliy on unattributed comments and near gossip. I understand the role of and the need to protect confidential sources, but I found it unbelievable that so few comments were "on the record" or attributable. Further, I anticipated that Klien would provide comparisons and contrasts with the actions of politicians that Klein would consider experienced and competent. Specifically, I expected examples of what "better" Presidents (or Presedential Candidates) did or would likely have done when faced with similar issues and events i.e., benchmarks against which to assess Obama without preconceptions or biases. Such examples were virtually non-existent. Unfortunately this book fails in providing a critical analysis of Obama's abilities. Obama supporters will consider it a politically motivated "hatchet job", while Obama detractors will revel in the unattributable anecdotes as they were hard evidence. I expected someone with Klein's jounalistic background to have done better in making his case.
No matter your political leanings this book will make you stop and think.
Although many of the incidents in this book are not attributed, the author's methodology leads one to believe that there is substance to them. If so, it's alarming that this man has the chance to be reelected. An important read, no matter which side of the aisle you stand.
Judging a book by its cover, it has a terrible title that makes one wonder if the author considers Bush to have been a professional?
