Summary
Add a SummarySage has never been keen on the fact that he was an orphan but usually the trouble he got into was something he could handle. No longer. When Sage finds himself essentially sold to a nobleman named Conner it doesn’t take long for him to discover that he is now a pawn in a dangerous game. Alongside three other orphans of similar age and build Sage is in the competition of a lifetime. If he wins he will be crowned as prince (the real ruler having died years ago). If he loses he will be killed. It’s the ultimate competition and the stakes are as high as they can be. Part mystery novel, part psychological war, you may see where the book is going at times but you’ll never forget the journey.
Quotes
Add a Quote"Carthya's not my country," I said, reaching for the doors to leave. "Frankly, I hope Avenia destroys it."
“She was too fat to credibly claim she starved along with the rest of us, but strong enough to beat anyone who complained about that fact.”
“If I had to do it all over again, I would not have chosen this life. Then again, I’m not sure I ever had a choice.”

Add a CommentLove this book! I like how you can feel the character's feelings and I can't explain it but it puts you directly into the book and everything that happens you feel it too.
Easy and entertaining read. Quite predictable though.
DO NOT READ THE COMMENT BELOW MINE by 'davka'. They give away what happens in this book! Comments that reveal the plot or surprise endings are SUPPOSED to go in the 'summaries' section. How incredibly annoying.
Great adventure story with something for everyone. Recommended for fans of Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief.
This was my favorite read of 2012! I loved it so much. Clever, skilled main character in a fun, fast-moving plot. I loooove it.
Wonderful book. Keep me interested to the end. Won't mind reading more of this author.
Four boys, one throne. Who will become Carthya's next reigning king" In America's next top model, contestants choose to participate and if they lose they get "sent home." In the False Prince, the contestants are coerced to participate and if they lose...they are sentenced to DEATH! In the end, there can be only one winner, one survivor!
Well-written, solid. Good even for adults.
I loved the main character. He is INCORRIGIBLE. He steals everything in sight. He sasses the man his life depends on. And he attacks a man for throwing a book at a girl. It isn't a perfect book, but I eagerly anticipate the rest of the trilogy. Excellent choice for boys and girls alike. #imagineteencontest
Fun, readable book -- but it seems to me to have too much similarity to Megan Whalen Turner's fantastic The Thief, which is so much better that I almost think, "Why write this one?"
