The lives of both the family and the servants in the London townhouse at 165 Eaton Place are followed. Upstairs lives Richard Bellamy, the head of the household, and also a member of Parliament. His wife is a member of the titled aristocracy. Downstairs is Hudson, the Scottish butler who directs and guides the other servants concerning their tasks and proper places.

The series was shot on location at 65 Eaton Place, London (address changed to #165 for the show). The house is still there, you can look it up on google maps.

If you're hoping to get your Downton Abbey fix from this, you'd better dial your expectations way down: the acting is worse (especially the Irish scullery maid); the sets are clearly just sets (not helped by poor lighting design); and the evolution of the characters' relationships are not particularly believable. Of course, I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole of the first season, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

This was one series I could not get into. I wasn't sure what to expect from the actors but I do think it was well done for the time period.
