READ the Books! So much better, and without the nudity and coarse language that concerns so many.

I can see from the below comments that I will be drastically disagreeing from the opinions of previous viewers. I think the label of 'nerd' is uncalled for just because a person disagrees with the rest of the crowd. Basically, I feel that this series an over-hyped medieval soap opera that relies heavily on the shock value of gratuitous sex, nudity, and violence. If that's your thing, then I'm sure you'll love it. If you're looking for a decent, meaningful plot, give it a miss. Another thing that I found extremely annoying was that there was no way (other than to walk away for a while) to get right to the main menu. You couldn't even fast forward past the previews. Maybe it's a typical HBO thing, which I will avoid in future.

i dont understand where all his hatred for frontal nudity comes from. i mean i could be wrong but u guys are guys right? I understand the sex is not in the book and blah blah blah but for god sakes grow a pair its just tits and ass. I for one am a fan of the nudity the gore and the violence so dont listen to these nerds, just watch it with both eyes open and enjoy!

I'd heard so much about this, I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I wasn't disappointed. Once you get into it, and think you know which direction things are going, the plot takes a different twist than expected. Very clever writing. I'm hooked. The cast is terrific; the settings; the music; even the introductory sequence is mesmerizing. Epic series. FIVE STARS.

I wouldn't say the first season is great, but it is good. It mostly sets up for what is to come. I thought it started off strong, slowed down to almost a boring pace, then picked back up again. Overall though, it is worth checking out if you like that LOTR type genre/atmosphere. The second season is better in my opinion and I'm waiting on the third now.

I watched this series on the recommendation of friends who know how much I enjoy epics and sagas. I was a little afraid, thinking I would be totally lost because I have not read the books. It's actually pretty easy to follow. The music, the sets, the costumes, the actors (esp Sean Bean), the sheer detail and scale are all incredibly magnificent; but for me, the storytelling is plodding and oppressive punctuated by acts of sex or violence. I was prepared for brutality, but I was not prepared for the graphic sexual content. It is definitely not Tolkein! I do intend to read the book(s), but I do not know if I will continue with series.

If there were less nudity it would be 5 stars and just because you can put people having sex in a show does not mean you should. HBO goes too far sometimes. 3 1/2 stars.

Another knock-off of Lord of the Rings, yet a really compelling story that is unnecessarily drenched in blood and gore and sex. Maybe the series was dumbed down from the book to appeal to the masses. The acting is wonderful, especially the always fascinating Sean Bean (who played Boromir in LOTR). The music and photography are terrific also. Worthwhile watching even with the negatives.

I am way late to the party, but I finally got a chance to see this talked about series, and I loved it. While there are some fantasy elements to the story, the plot is really more about political intrigue and how the characters react to each new situation. Luckily the dvd extra's include character profiles which really helps since there are just so many characters it can be hard to keep track. Well worth watching.

There are seven kingdoms. The king that rules them all is King Robert Baratheon, but things are not as they seem at King's Landing. While the game of thrones is played subtly in Westeros, a new competitor emerges over the Narrow Sea. What will destroy them: the oncoming attack or the in-fighting and secrets behind the castle walls?

Cersei Lannister: You should have taken the realm for yourself. Jaime told me about the day King's Landing fell. He was sitting on the Iron Throne and you made him give it up. All you needed to do was climb those steps yourself. Such a sad mistake. Eddard Stark: I've made many mistakes in my life, but that wasn't one of them. Cersei Lannister: Oh but it was. When you play the game of thrones you win, or you die. There is no middle ground.
