Item Details

Hoping to distance himself from the fallout of a libel conviction, journalist Mikael Blomkvist retreats to a remote island in Sweden's far north where the unsolved murder of a young girl still haunts her industrialist uncle forty years later. Ensconced in a cottage on the island where the killer may still roam, Blomkvist's investigation draws him into the secrets and lies of the rich and powerful, and throws him together with one unlikely ally: tattooed, punk hacker, Lisbeth Salander.

If you want to read the story in both book and movie adaptions I'd suggest this sequence: see the English movie version first, then the original Swedish movie, and then read the book. I did not have the luxury of reading the book beforehand. But the English version with Daniel Craig is more superior to the Swedish one in that if follows the book much more closely, albeit the more logical twist in the ending. Rooney Mara's portrayal of Salander is downright staggering. It is she I imagine while I was reading the book. The critical, supporting characters are so exquisitely played from Christopher Plummer to Stellan Skarsgard, and to The Cat. Expect to re-watch the English movie more than once since there are some nuances easily missed in the first few screenings.

This US version was ok, but comes no where near the totally awesome Swedish production of this story (Which the library also has in its collection) That original version blows this one out of the water with its perfectly cast roles. This version I would rate as just ok and suggest watching the Swedish version. I prefer the one that is not dubbed and is in Swedish because they did not quite get the voices right with the dubbing. This is a compelling story, but be forewarned the sexual violence is heavy - ultimately I think the story balances it out. The books are good too.

Not confusing at all. Unless to a first timer to this genre. Interesting and enjoyable. A must watch for all Connoisseurs. I am impressed. In fact I read the book trilogy and watched the DVD trilogy...

With several story lines that did not mesh all too well, the film seemed to drag a bit.

I like this as much or better than the original. I am very impressed with Rooney Mara. A star was born, definitely. Daniel Craig is his normal, boring, bland self. I don't understand the appeal of guys like him (or Mark Wahlberg and such guys - except maybe they're so average it's appealing to people).

I liked the movie very much. It has everything that a suspense thriller drama should have. A must watch if you like that genre!

I like how he uses her and then goes back to his ex. This was done really well.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ---- DVD - 2012 ---- Written by, ???? ---- Performers: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard, Steven Berkoff, Robin Wright, Joely Richardson, Geraldine James, Goran Visnjic, Yorick Van Wageningen, Daniel Sumpter, Ulf Friberg. ---- ---- MPAA rating R for brutal violent content including rape and torture, strong sexuality, graphic nudity, and language. ---- ---- My review: I gave 4 1/2 Stars. ---- I tried to watch this once before and could not follow the tale, because of all the people giving thier commentary or saying thier own crude version of the show. So I left and waited for the video to show up here at "SPL" ---- This an Adult show/movie, that revolves around the real displeasures of WW2 to present. ---- The performers are excellent in thier work. ---- Quite a tale to follow and watch. ---- Enjoy! ---- The who done it:A fine suspenseful job. ----RichardPaul (finished 3-2013 & 6-9-13)

The story is long and involving, the production values are top of the line, the acting is excellent, and the local color is great. It's not really an action movie, it's a (deliberately) dark, oppressive, tangled plot movie, and you've more or less seen it before (3rd Man, Blow-Up, and many more). It is very well done and it would be a fine 4 stars, except the whole thing depends on that Tattooed Girl, and she gets it absolutely right, which adds, for me, a star.-------------------------------------------PS The disk is supposed to look like a pirated copy, it's not.
