Hoping to distance himself from the fallout of a libel conviction, journalist Mikael Blomkvist retreats to a remote island in Sweden's far north where the unsolved murder of a young girl still haunts her industrialist uncle forty years later. Ensconced in a cottage on the island where the killer may still roam, Blomkvist's investigation draws him into the secrets and lies of the rich and powerful, and throws him together with one unlikely ally: tattooed, punk hacker, Lisbeth Salander.

First, five stars (outstanding) rating for the original Swedish version with Noomie Raplace (who portrays Lisbeth Salander). This American/British version is skeazy, cheesy and atrocious by comparison - - poorly written, poorly acted. Absolutely no comparison. See the Swedish version by all means.
This movie is based on the first of three books by Stieg Larsen. The books build on the preceeding book(s) and are really informative, suspensful and intriguing. If this movie of the first book is great(and I think it is) then books 2 and 3 (movie and book) are greater and greaterer. No english movie has been made of books 2 and 3, but there are the 3 swedish movies(english subtitles) . I didn t mind the subtitles. You can get those from netflix. Or just get the books from vpl. Or check if vpl has the swedish movies (called the "girl who played with fire", and "the girl who kicked the hornets nest"
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ---- DVD - 2012 ---- Written by, ???? ---- Performers: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard, Steven Berkoff, Robin Wright, Joely Richardson, Geraldine James, Goran Visnjic, Yorick Van Wageningen, Daniel Sumpter, Ulf Friberg. ---- ---- MPAA rating R for brutal violent content including rape and torture, strong sexuality, graphic nudity, and language. ---- ---- My review: I gave 4 1/2 Stars. I tried to watch this once before and could not follow the tale, because of all the people giving thier commentary or saying thier own crude version of the show. So I left and waited for the video to show up here at "SPL" ---- This an Adult show/movie, that revolves around the real displeasures of WW2 to present. ---- The performers are excellent in thier work. ---- Quite a tale to follow and watch. ---- Enjoy! ---- The who done it ----RichardPaul (finished 3-2013)
I thought the film was just so-so for a thriller. I think it should be pointed out that is contains a long, graphic, extremely violent rape scene that will be traumatic for many people to watch. Consider yourself warned.
Worth noting, since people have taken to commenting on this: the DVD is designed on purpose to look like a bootleg DVD. Neither EPL nor any other library systems are distributing copied discs. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/9158437/Film-buyers-fooled-by-Sonys-The-Girl-with-the-Dragon-Tattoo-DVD-joke.html
An extremely well written and interesting movie. I haven't read the books yet, but now I know I will. This is the way a mystery movie/story should be written!
I invited my friend over after she told me she had just bought this movie. I did not see this in the theater, but i'm happy to have seen this using my HOMETHEATER. After a few coming attractions the sound track to this movie had all my speakers singing out loud!!! My subwoofers were providing the bass while my fronts, center channel, and surrounds were delivering the vocals and instruments in this very pumped up and loud version of a classic Led Zepplin song. I liked it!!! I also enjoyed the visuals while the theme song was playing...Since i had heard from many people about this movie my friend and i was pumped from the get go. The young lady know as "Lisbeth" was a very good character as well as the rest of the cast. But me and my friend were always waiting for "Lisbeth" since we both liked her so much. My friend did applaud loudly when "Lisbeth" seeked her revenge on the man that crudely raped her. Pumping her fist in the air saying "Yes,yes, yes,!!" I would consider this movie as good all around sound that should be heard on your HomeTheater. After watching this movie i later purchased it also and it is now a part of my collection. I'm giving this movie 4 stars. A very good story, interesting characters, and my friend got very excited. Two Philly cheese steak heroes and Arizona ice tea.
actual movie not in the case.
very very good
