Summary
Add a SummaryIn this society everything seems to be perfect. The Society's Officials decide everything in your life for you, including who you marry, where you work, and when you die. The main character, Cassia, is waiting to be Matched to a boy whom she will be married to. When Cassia's best friend appears on the screen, she knows they are well matched. But, when she sees another boys face flash upon the screen she isn't so sure anymore. Now it is up to Cassia to decide: To live the life the Society has laid before her, or find her own way, the way no one has gone before... purpleberrysbookblog,blogspot.com
cassia is matched with xander, but due to a project set up by the government, she falls in love with ky. who will she end up with?
Matched follows Cassia, a girl living in a Utopian/Dystopian society where everything is predicted and controlled by the government including who they will be mated with for life. Cassia's government mandated match is a lifelong friend of hers but when she plugs her data card in to see his information another face pops up on her screen. Cassia falls for Ky and starts to question the rules of her society. Cassia's dystopian world is more like The Giver than other horrifying dystopian societies that have been popular in recent dystopias such as the Hunger Games. Her society is seemingly perfect but also heavily regimented and controlling. To make things more frustrating everytime Cassia does something that she feels is out of the ordinary one of the officials tells her that she was predicted to act in that way. She's never overtly threatened and there is no risk of bodily harm but there is always a risk of being watched. The romance and love triangle which is heavily featured in the story is sweet. There is a large focus on poetry and art which could encourage younger readers to seek out the poem that Cassia treasures.
Notices
Add a NoticeSexual Content: There's a few kissing scenes. It doesn't really go anywhere past kissing and a few tentative embraces, however.
Quotes
Add a Quote"It is one thing to make a choice and it is another thing to never have a chance. I feel a cold loneliness deep within me. What would it be like to be alone? To know that you could never choose anything else?"
" Except. The face I saw, the face that was not Xander: I knew him to"
"You don't have to write it back," I say, feeling self-conscious. "I just wanted you to know." "I don't want to write it back," he tells me. And then he says it, right out there on the Hill, and all of the words I have hidden and saved and treasured, these are the ones I will never forget, the most important ones of all. "I love you." Lightning. Once it has forked, hot-white, from the sky to earth, there is no going back.
I love. The most reckless thing of all.
“Now that I've found the way to fly, which direction should I go into the night?”
how is it that two boys who are so different are connected in such unexpected, deep ways? Maybe we all are and we don’t see it anymore.
“Cassia Maria Reyes.” It is my turn. I stand up, letting go of my mother’s hand, and turn toward the screen. I feel my heart pounding and I am tempted to twist my hands the way Lea did, but I hold perfectly still with my chin up and my eyes on the screen. I watch and wait, determined that the girl my Match will see on the screen in his City Hall somewhere out there in Society will be poised and calm and lovely, the very best image of Cassia Maria Reyes that I can present. But nothing happens. I stand and look at the screen, and, as the seconds go by, it is all I can do to stay still, all I can do to keep smiling. Whispers start around me. Out of the corner of my eye, I see my mother move her hand as if to take mine again, but then she pulls it back. A girl in a green dress stands waiting, her heart pounding. Me. The screen is dark, and it stays dark. That can only mean one thing. Haha Gotcha! You'll have to read the book to find out what comes next! =)
“Everything,” I tell him, and it’s true. I’ve waited so long for this: for my Match Banquet where I’ll see for the first time, the face of the boy who will be my Match. It will be the first time I hear his name.

Comment
Add a CommentI really enjoyed this book and like to Pre-read my daughters books so that we can talk about it after she is finished. This was a beautiful story of a first love in all it's innocence. The restriction of their society is comparable to how a teenager feels in their parents house. I believe that this book will make them more appreciative of their freedoms.
There's little to no action in this one, but I'm sure that will change as the series progresses. I thought the storyline was very intriguing, though I agree that it was indeed a little tedious at times. I finished reading this in less than eight hours because I couldn't stop reading. Once it got to the bit about the microcard and her seeing Ky's face, it picked up a little. It was slightly predictable in some spots, but the cliffhanger ending, I didn't see coming. Now THAT was really unexpected! Great book! I think adults might enjoy this one too.
I loved this book! I'm always amazed at the new ideas and plots that dystopean authors come up with. This was a very fast and fun read that didn't disappoint. I highly recommend.
I thought this book was OK. I thought it was a very cool, futuristic idea, and it was interesting to learn about what their life was like. I thought the story was mostly interesting, but it got dull and boring in my opinion; the same things just happening over and over. I didn't love it.
This book is okay but the last is the best out of all. Follow Cassia as she follows the path of love, Where will it take her?
If you like romance and drama then you will love this book. I personnaly didn't really like this book, but it got interesting toweards the end, a little too much romance for my taste though. But it is a cool futuristic idea.
I just finished this book yesterday. It was so difficult for me to put it down, even to go to sleep at night. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who needs a good read. Even though it reminds me a bit of the Giver and the Hunger Games series, Matched has its own flair that makes it a very excellent book. Can't wait to read Crossed. And (for now) I am so rooting for Ky.
i reaallly didnt like this book i read half way through and stoped because i was so bored!! its just a copy of the giver but more girly!
This is one of my all time favorite books. The best out of the trilogy. Definitely worth reading.
a very good book. i donated my copy to the library but i may buy it in the future if it comes on dvd. i got rid of it only because i have too many other books and i had read it. if i didnt have so many books i would have kept it.
