Not putting any spoilers is going to be difficult. I loved this book. I loved it so much; it is one of the best books I've ever written. That one scene at the end that is so painful (if you've read it, you probably know what I"m talking about) is probably my favourite scene in any book. I'm completely and utterly in love with Will Herondale. Jem is an amazing character but I just can't compare him to Will... the second WIll came into the first book I knew I liked him but I never knew it would be well all plot twisty... Okay I'm going to stop now or I will put a spoiler and there's nothing worse than a spoiler.

This is an excellent second book in a trilogy. While the villain that was set up in the first novel hovers over the plot, lending an ominous air and contributing to the mystery of why Tessa is a shapechanger and where she came from, the book also includes major character developments for every character we encountered in the previous novel. There are some steamy moments between Tessa and Jem and Tessa and Will, which will make shippers for either pair very happy, and although there is a triangle developing, Clare does it well and throws kinks into the works that make its resolution unclear at this point. However, the best discovery is learning about Will's past and why he is the way he is. Again, the poetry excerpts at the beginning of each chapter add a nice touch and it's fun for the reader to piece together how the few lines will relate to the chapter's contents. While the novel again has a bit of a cliffhanger, it's not one that will have readers screaming for the next book. Many of the threads are tied up neatly by the end of the book, leaving only the overarching plot of the trilogy unresolved.

Nice mixture of adventure and romance. The reader learns a lot about Will's background and character in this second book in the Infernal Devices series. There's more Jem/Tessa in this book, and the Jem/Tessa/Will love triangle is set up really nicely.

did anyone ever think of the connection between will and brother zachariah?

soooo I can buy the book at Target, but BPL does not have it in circulation yet....what is the problem I thought libraries got advanced copies? Where are the books?

I really liked this book, it might even be my favourite of all the shadow hunter books. I liked this book because the plot was realistic, instead of overly dramatic. Also, the emotions were strong and it was really easy to connect with the characters. My heart is aching for Will!

aww i feel so bad for will in this book he wasted years of his life believing a stupid curse :'(

Will: "is this a game? we just blurt out whatever word comes next to mind? in that case mine's 'genuphobia' it means an unreasonable fear of knees"

Will: "I've never swum naked in the Thames, but I know I wouldn't like it." Tessa: "But think how entertaining for sightseers."

Charlotte: "I can trust you, Jessie, but you're clearly not well enough to go. Which is unfortunate, since Aloysius always had a weakness for a pretty face." Will: "Even more reason why I should go."
