When I started reading this book, I immediately felt that I had read it before and that is because Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld is a plagarized version of this series. Having said that, I felt that Showalter's version is better. I really like the characters Rhage and Mary in the beginning of the book, but then Mary seemed a bit to knuckle-headed for me. It also felt like the author was to heavy-handed in her development of Mary. Mary is so open to helping others: works with autistic children, works on a suicide hotline, wants to take an orphaned by in her home...and yet, she is so closed off to the romance with Rhage that I wanted to shake her and then I just got disgusted with her. I also dislike it when the book uses the formula of one of the characters not dealing with their feelings for the other one until ...like...the last chapter. Ugh. I did stay up late into the night reading the ending, so I was invested in the story, but felt that the ultimate payoff was too long in coming to be really worth my while. This is the second book I have read by this author and I think it will be my last.

This struck me as probably the sweetest BDB book. Rhage, although cursed, is a very fun and funny character. And Mary's my third favourite female character in the BDB world after Xhex and Bella. Very enjoyable all around.

Rhage and Mary

Once again J.R. Ward kept me riveted staying up late so I could finish another book, in the Black Brotherhood series! It was excellent, I feel sorry for Rhage, excellent writing! What will I read when I finished this series??

Part of the botherhood series this follows what could be one of the best characters in the entire series. We follow Rhage as he meets his match in a human female of strength and courage. Read this book to see how this one human heals a brothers and how their ending is.

Loved it! These tough Brotherhood guys are so, so soft on the inside! Ah, I wish there was someone like that for me. :) I don't like Scribe Virgin BTW...
