March, 1942. 90-pound weakling Steve Rogers doggedly attempts to enlist in the army, only to be repeatedly classified 4F. Rogers' determination and decency come to the attention of Dr. Abraham Erskine of the Strategic Scientific Reserve. Rogers is the first test subject for Erskine's super-soldier serum, which transforms him utterly. When the program is abruptly ended, Rogers becomes Captain America--touring America to sell war bonds. On a USO tour in Europe, Rogers steals the first opportunity to demonstrate his worth by tangling with Johann Schmidt, a.k.a. the Red Skull, head of Hydra, Hitler's occult research and development unit. Schmidt has discovered the tesseract cube, an enormously powerful relic of Norse mythology through which he seeks to conquer the world. Assisted by Colonel Chester Phillips, Peggy Carter, weapons contractor Howard Stark, childhood friend Bucky Barnes, and Dum Dum Doogan and his howling commandos, Steve Rogers becomes more than a propaganda tool, emerging as the true Captain America.

Good movie. Hugo Weaving is a good villain, and even though he's in heavy makeup for a good portion of the movie you can still see his style. Good opening movie that explains the beginnings of the superhero universe that has been created.

An action packed super hero movie. Well crafted storyline held my interest. Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, etc... terrific. Tommy Lee Jones is always top quality. The cliffhanger was completely unexpected. I loved it. FIVE STARS.

SO nice to see Americans treated--for a change!--as the good guys they are! Evans is a gorgeous young man, tall and strong, perfect for the character. The fight of Good against Evil is timeless and independent of age--one understands it at 1 as well as at 25! Love this movie and can't wait for the second.

This guy became a superhero only because he was so intensely patriotic and had a irrepressible desire to go and fight. Then he gets a ridiculous shield and a gun and he goes and shoots a bunch of bad guys. How boring. Also, the basic story is pretty much a copy of Raiders of the Lost Ark. An interesting aside: at some point, the evil enemy, with a scheme as evil as nonsensical, says "I've seen the future and there are no flags", to which Cpt America replies "not in my reality". I thought the "Red Skull" had a little more vision on that one...

Very good, well paced, adding to the growing list of well-done Marvel comic superhero films. The villain lacked complexity, but the storyline moves briskly, succinctly, fun at-times, and interesting. Wait for the post-credits to see the Avengers set-up.

In March 1942, Nazi officer Johann Schmidt and his men invade Tønsberg, Norway, to steal a mysterious Tesseract[a] possessing untold powers. Meanwhile, in New York City, Steve Rogers is rejected for World War II military duty because of various health and physical issues. While attending an exhibition of future technologies with his friend Bucky Barnes, Rogers again attempts to enlist. Overhearing Rogers' conversation with Barnes about wanting to help in the war, Dr. Abraham Erskine allows Rogers to enlist. He is recruited in the Scientific Strategic Reserve as part of a "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine, Col. Chester Phillips, and British agent Peggy Carter. Phillips is unconvinced by Erskine's claims that Rogers is the right person for the procedure, but relents after seeing Rogers commit an act of self-sacrificing bravery. The night before the treatment, Erskine reveals to Rogers that Schmidt underwent an imperfect version of the procedure and suffered side-effects.
