By far the best Woody Allen film I have seen...his obvious love of Paris through the ages shows in every lovingly-depicted scene.

A very interesting film about a writer who apparently time travels upon entering an antique automobile at the same location at or after midnight. Being a time travel film to some extent, it reminds me of my favorite Somewhere in Time, however they're not very similar as this film is a more hopeful film in its ending. It's interesting to see the characterizations of certain famous people throughout the film though admittedly it becomes more and more hard to understand what the lead character ever saw in his fiance and what she ever saw in him (besides $$).

Time travel, Paris, 1920's, witty dialogue - what's not to love?

Modern day Paris as well as Paris in the 1920s is the perfect backdrop for this story of love and angst. Gil Pender and his fiancée Inez are in Paris to accompany Inez's parents who are in Paris on business. Gil immediately falls in love with the idea moving to Paris in order to finish his first novel. Alternatively Inez wants to marry and settle down in Malibu with Gil continuing his lucrative screenwriting career. On a late night stroll Gil gets lost and at the stroke of midnight he encounters a 1920s Peugeot that transports him back in time to the golden age of Paris. Gil continues these nightly soirees during which he meets many famous authors, artists and celebrities. More importantly Gil meets Pablo Picasso's mistress Adriana with whom he falls in love. As Gil continues to split his time between the past and the present he begins to rethink his future. Midnight in Paris is a wonderful romantic comedy written and directed by Woody Allen.

a magical story set in a very magical city. Beginning with the opening montage of idyllic Parisian scenes bathed in a golden light, the entire movie is a valentine to this city of inspirations. It's not perfect. The family scenes are a little shrill and the scenes with "pedantic" Paul were funny but too short; however, Woody Allen seems to have found his contemporary embodiment in Owen Wilson. Marion Cotillard was a standout in a cast of incredible characters.

One of Woody Allen's greatest movies. It makes much more sense if you read "A Moveable Feast" by Ernest Hemingway first, but maybe that's just me.

What will you do if you will have a chance to step back in time and meet your favourite artists... Well seat tight and enjoy your ride...

Loved this movie! One of my personal favourite fantasies, loved the characters - Owen Wilson was perfect as Woody - I mean the neurotic expate confused writer! Not for everyone, I guess, but I found it adorable.

It seems people like this movie or they don't. I did, mostly for the rainy night scenes in Paris and the acting - not the lead characters. All Woody in story and flow. 4 stars.

Hemingway: Have you ever made love to a truly great woman? Gil: Actually, my fiancee is pret-ty sexy. Hemingway: And when you make love to her you feel true and beautiful passion and you, for at least that moment, lose your fear of death. Gil: No. That doesn't happen. Hemingway: I believe that love that is true and real creates a respite from death. All cowardice comes from not loving, or not loving well, which is the same thing. And when the man who is brave and true looks death squarely in the face, like some rhino hunters I know, or Belmonte, who is truly brave, it is because they love with sufficient passion to push death out of their minds. Until it returns, as it does to all men. And then you must make really good love again. Think about it.
