Item Details

Random House, Inc.
Stephen King's legendary debut, about a teenage outcast and the revenge she enacts on her classmates.

Carrie White may have been unfashionable and unpopular, but she had a gift. Carrie could make things move by concentrating on them. A candle would fall. A door would lock. This was her power and her sin. Then, an act of kindness, as spontaneous as the vicious taunts of her classmates, offered Carrie a chance to be a normal and go to her senior prom. But another act--of ferocious cruelty--turned her gift into a weapon of horror and destruction that her classmates would never forget.

Baker & Taylor
An introverted girl with remarkable powers of telekinesis faces the horrors of teenage life and unleashes a few horrors of her own when she attends the high school prom.

I have watched the 70's (the original) movie adaptation of " Carrie ". There have also been other movies based on the Stephen King novel. Just going on the movie versions I've watched, there are some aspects of the " Carrie " story that have been lost in the various movie adaptations. I still liked reading the book version though. I didn't find it scary at all.

Great Book, I'm reading it now * NOT FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN *

I have never sympathized with the villain so much ever before.

Brilliant and scary. Read this around Halloween. It's as much about horror and supernatural events as it is about bullying and retribution. In my opinion, Carrie is the victim here.

I enjoyed Carrie very much. King is a very good writer and his style is very easy to read. The ultimate story here is how high school can damage people that are different and do not "fit in." His description of how the students act toward one another is right on and my guess is he was ostracized when he was in high school and still holds scars because of his experiences.

Scary! One of kings best novels.

While it's a good book to read, I felt the reviews were misleading in that the story was not at all scary (unless maybe you are 12 or younger) and the language used didn't seem to fit the setting of the book. Hopefully the upcoming movie will be good :)

Very great read...but then again, I like it when people get their comeuppances. lol. Easy read, an interesting author who can create believable young female character, and aside from description of 1970's clothing and such, this story could easily have been published in this decade. A shame the novel was so short, and no hopes of a sequel. Ya ya, spoiler alert. Sorry.
