I loved this! Well written, well read. LOVED IT! You have to juggle several stories in your head, but that was fine with me. I was hooked immediately.
Good narration although the change to and from different time periods and narrators was sometimes difficult to follow.
Grit and wit! This is a novel that a friend calls "fiction with corpses." True, there's a private detective, the thrice-wed Jackson Brodie, and there's a copper, retired DS Tracy Waterhouse, and there are definitely some mysteries to be revealed. But there's nothing formulaic about this occasionally/pleasantly nonlinear story of a 35 year old unsolved killing. Two small, abused creatures (a child and a dog) are rescued by Jackson and Tracy on the same day, unbeknownst to each other. These two events bring the two world weary pros circling closer together as they puzzle over a child lost since 1975. Atkinson is deft, and straightforward and funny, a winning combination.
