By the way, the description above says 'Darkhunters' when even in the book it says 'Shadowhunters'. Weird, right?

this bookwas amzing. i didnt want to read it at first, as it wazs kinda slow for me in the beggining, but after i got into it snd couldnt put it down. it has a great plot, and the perfect mix of action and romance. although a little more romance betweenjace and clary would have been good to! ;) i cant wait to finish the second book, although the ending of this made me cry!!! jace really!!!! you had to be you! grrrrr! read the books! they are amzing!

This book is so well written! Praise Cassandra Clare. I just mean like wow! Who has an imagination as big as hers? Has anybody read the Infernal Devices series. I've read the first book. The Infernal Devices is a series before the Mortal Instruments series. It talks about the Shadowhunters at the Institute before Jace, Clary, Alec, and Isabelle. Question, if Jace and Clary are really siblings then why are they always holding eachother like they're in lobe on the covers? Don't spoil anything for me if you decide to reply.

This is the first book in a teen series. Clary Fray has grown up with a somewhat overprotective mom. Her best friend is Simon and the two teens go out to an all ages club near their homes in New York City. While there Clary sees something happen that she realizes no one else sees. She tries to deal with this on her own, but can't make sense of it. When her mother disappears, and she is attacked by an extremely scary monster, she finds herself rescued by one of the people she saw earlier. She learns that there is a whole other world that she has been unaware of, one of demons, and the Shadowhunter warriors who keep them in line. She also learns that the Sight she has developed to see these beings also is part of her heritage and part of what endangers her life. As Clary moves further into this new world and works to find and save her mother, she also learns about herself and her capabilities. An interesting beginning.

This is one of my favourite books. I love the characters, particularly Clary and Jace. The way Cassie Clare writes is wonderful, it is beautifully descriptive and witty. I fell in love with Jace in this book, and he remains my favourite male character. I also love Clary, she is 'one of us'.

The back: Their hidden world is about to be revealed... When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder--much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary. Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

“But you have to learn to bend a little,” said Clary with a yawn. Despite the story’s content, the rhythm of Jace’s voice had made her sleepy. “Or you’ll break.” “Not if your strong enough,” said Jace firmly. He reached out, and she felt the back of his hand brush her cheek…” JACE WAYLAND AND CLARY FRAY “He made a sound like a choked laughed before he reached out and pulled her into her arms. She was aware of Luke watching them from the window, but she shut her eyes resolutely and buried her face against Jace's shoulder. He smelled of salt and blood, and only when his mouth came close to her ear did she understand what he was saying, and it was the simplest litany of all: her name, just her name.” JACE AND CLARY!

"The meek may inherit the earth, but at the moment it belongs to the conceited. Like me. (Jace)" "Don't tell me," Jace said, "Simon's turned himself into an ocelot and you want me to do something about it before Isabelle makes him into a stole. Well, you'll have have to wait till tomorrow. I'm out of commission." He pointed at himself - he was wearing blue pajamas with a hole in the sleeve. "Look. Jammies." "Jace," Clary said, "this is important." "Don't tell me," he said. "You've got a drawing emergency. You need a nude model. Well, I'm not in the mood" "I have a high pain threshold. In fact, it's more of a large and tastfully decorated foyer than a threshold. But I do get easily bored" (Jace)

The rat, huddled in the hollow of her palms, squeaked glumly. Delighted, she hugged him to her chest."Oh, poor baby," she crooned, almost as if he really were a pet. "Poor Simon, it'll be fine, I promise---" "I wouldn't feel too sorry for him," Jace said. "That's probably the closet he's ever been to second base."
