Add a CommentI placed this both seasons on hold after hearing rave reviews from friends about this series. I also thought I would like it since I'm a fan of another series called Vera and Case Stories. I didn't get the discs via the library after all because of the holds but they have it on Netflix. This series is incredible. I watched both seasons in one weekend and I fell in love with this. I can't wait for the next season. Brilliant acting, story lines...etc. Luther, scary good fun.
Great acting by Luther, his nemesis, and supporting actors, for most part. Luther is memorable and intense. Stories need work, though. Poor carry-over from the First to the Second Series, leaving lots of questions of what exactly happened in-between. I wasn't as thrilled about the series as some of the people here. A bit dark, and violent for my taste.
Really great, well-acted series. I would love to see Idris Elba play Othello.
this very short series came highly recommended by a savvy colleague. it took me a few episodes to warm up to dci luther. perhaps i expected another bbc detective instead of the unpredictable and omniscient center of this series? he's closer to sherlock holmes than wallander. the totally engrossing plot moves forward quickly based largely on luther's wit. the villians are the best part of this series. i'm sad that this series is only six episodes as it left me wanting more. warning: the next season is even shorter. you might want to check season 1 and season 2 out at the same time if possible for the optimal viewing marathon.
Fast paced and somewhat entertaining. Idris Elba plays the temperamental explosive DCI to the hilt. [He is always breaking something...] I think his ability as an actor was better utilized in "the Wire". Luther is a little over the top in the writing, creating tense almost surreal story lines, that verge on the comical, and it is a shame. He is an intense actor, and I think the understatement of the "Stringer" character in the Wire was a better fit. Nevertheless after the outrageous ending of the first season I am going to wait and see where the storyline is going to go in the 2nd. I recommend it along the lines of "Waking the Dead", with all its melodrama, it has engaging stories.
I thought my head was going to explode it was so exciting in parts. If you like British crime dramas, not to be missed. Start at series one.
Luther makes other crime dramas look like child's play. The writing and acting are masterful. The bar has been raised in this genre.
This is simply one of the best videos that you will see. Intelligent and entertaining...
Excellent series! I first heard about this series during the Emmy broadcast this past September and watched the first season within a couple of days. Has become one of my favourite shows.
LOVE Luther! One of the best Brit police dramas out there!
