I liked this film, it's a good intro to the character, for a newbie like me. It shows some common knowledge on Green Lantern, what I didn't know was that he is a part of a whole customized team of guardians. Yeah, that new!

Despite what everyone else here said, I really enjoyed the movie. The storyline was great, it was funny, and there was plenty of action. We are all entitled to our opinions so I won't argue but I love this movie. The only thing I don't like is Ryan Reynolds being deadpool and green lantern.

After watching the extended cut of this film I pronounce the experience to be decidedly...average. I neither hated the film, its protagonist, or villain(s)...but at the same time I didn't end up with a whole lot of interest in or affection for any of the above, either. The best thing about it was probably Ryan Reynold's charm and charisma as Hal Jordan, plus a few stunningly rendered CGI sequences. The worst thing about it was the silly digitally-painted-on green mask on Reynold's face while he is in costume as the Green Lantern, in Blu-Ray high def it looked even phonier and was a major distraction.
On the whole I can see why they decided to shelve the character and franchise for the foreseeable future, though it's been announced that the Lantern will return in 2020.
Sadly, I presume that the motion picture's under-performance spelled the doom of the generally excellent Green Lantern Animated Series, which I highly recommend to anyone with an interest in the character.

Likeable and watchable, though it didnt quite mesh with the critics who panned it upon it's 2011 release, this comic book adaptation of the DC hero Green Lantern does have plenty of action and fantasy element, so as to not totally alienate it's target audience. I enjoyed Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan who receives the famed Green Ring and Lantern from Abin Sur and upon the utterance of the oath, becomes the interstellar superhero of the title. Mark Strong as Sinestro is a strong performance for the actor, and even though here is portrayed as a member of the Corps. you can tell that he is destined to become evil as time goes on. By any means, not an epic, however fun.

Did the Green Hornet... I mean, the Green Lantern really wear his precious, little ring on his middle finger? Did he really?_____ Well, I don't know how you'd interpret that, but, since we are all familiar with what the middle-finger salute clearly indicates, then I'd say that whenever Lantern extended his middle finger in order to slip the ring on or off he was subtly telling all of us viewers to "go-fukk-ourselves", literally._____ To say that this tired and trite, little thumb-twiddler-of-a-movie (with its staggering $200 million budget) was chock-full of out-of-this-world asininity would be an understatement of the highest order._____ I know that I'm saying this now, and I could very easily change my tune about this anytime in the near future - But, I swear that Green Lantern is the absolute last frickin' movie that I'm ever going to watch that has anything to do with the likes of DC Comics._____ (Sheesh!) I am so bloody sick to death of blasted, boring superheroes and all of their "save-the-universe" nonsense. I really am!

Cheeseball. I didn't stick around to watch it and my daughters turned it on and never looked at the screen the whole time it was on while they played in the living room.

I liked this movie, but I feel like it could have been better. I can't really explain it since I don't know much about the original story. Some parts were pretty awesome, while other times I was just sitting there waiting for it to end.

The main issue is the cheesy visual effects. This makes me wonder if this comic book tale translates well to the screen.
