Likeable and watchable, though it didnt quite mesh with the critics who panned it upon it's 2011 release, this comic book adaptation of the DC hero Green Lantern does have plenty of action and fantasy element, so as to not totally alienate it's target audience. I enjoyed Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan who receives the famed Green Ring and Lantern from Abin Sur and upon the utterance of the oath, becomes the interstellar superhero of the title. Mark Strong as Sinestro is a strong performance for the actor, and even though here is portrayed as a member of the Corps. you can tell that he is destined to become evil as time goes on. By any means, not an epic, however fun.

Cheeseball. I didn't stick around to watch it and my daughters turned it on and never looked at the screen the whole time it was on while they played in the living room.

I liked this movie, but I feel like it could have been better. I can't really explain it since I don't know much about the original story. Some parts were pretty awesome, while other times I was just sitting there waiting for it to end.

The main issue is the cheesy visual effects. This makes me wonder if this comic book tale translates well to the screen.

When it was released in 2011, critics skewered it. It reeks of wasted potential. Its CGI effects are a mess, including but not limited to Hal's gaudy green suit added entirely in post. However, it is not as bad as I thought it would be. It's a shame it wasn't better, but it isn't unwatchable. In the end, if you wanted to see it, I wouldn't deter you, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I like this film. It has good effects, good acting, it's funny, it remains true to the source and, like one or two of the Batman films, it has overcoming fear as it's theme. What's not to like, really? Ryan Reynolds is pretty perfect for the part, ye old Guardians of the Galaxy were nicely portrayed. Hal's relationship with his girlfriend was a bit wimpy with her being bossy and know-it-all but isn't that just the state of America in Hollywood or vice versa?
Furthermore, Hal is surrounded by obstacles via Sarsgaard's character, his girlfriend, Parallax, his bosses, his government, Sinestro and the ultimately useless Guardians. He's got more resistance than assistance in an apparently hostile universe.

Average movie. Average plot. Average cast, with the exception of Ryan Reynolds, who had a sort of decent performance. Not his best one though. OK special effects, the rest was just plain average. Nothing too good, nothing that bad. Just a very average movie for the average movie go-er. 2 and a half stars for Green Lantern's average effort.
