This book was absolutely amazing! "Haunting Violet" , by Alyxandra Harvey is such an eerie, addicting story, that is sure to keep you turning pages. Set in the 1800's, Haunting Violet follows 16 year old Violet, who is forever burdened by her mother's lies and tricks to convince to public that she can see spirits. All Violet wants is to get away from her mother's trickery. But how can she do that when she realizes that she herself can actually see ghosts and spirits...for real. With the help of the ghosts, Violet sets out to solving a creepy murder mystery, and uncovers lies that have been buried long in the past. I will admit, that the first few chapters of the book are quite boring ; they progress very slowly and mostly tell of Violet's past. However, once the suspense starts drawing in, it's almost impossible to stop reading. I'd recommend this book to anyone above the age of 13, who'd like a good mystery/supernatural read, to keep them thinking all night. :D

An interesting book but there are too many details in the beginning of the book that made it a bore at first.

The premise is so promising and the tagline on the cover of the book (Violet doesn't believe in ghosts...but they believe in her.) is so intriguing. But the actual story doesn't deliver on the promise. The writing is mediocre and amateurish. Don't waste your time on this one.

This book had all what I love in a good book mystery, romance, horror and an inspiring character. I loved the relationship between Colin and Violet because they were always so loyal to eachother and would trust eachother with their life. I also enjoyed the many unexpected twists in the novel such as Violet meeting her father and him rejecting her and my favourite, the fact that Violet had the gift not her mother. I know this was an excellent book as it had me attached to it and the author made you feel like you were there, as if you were Violet. As well a good mystery always has the murder as someone you least expect.

Alyxandra Harvey interview: 'Haunting Violet'

Alyxandra Harvey discusses her new book, 'Haunting Violet', a tale of dark romance for teens. Alyxandra Harvey is the author of the Drake Chronicles, YA fiction in the paranormal romance genre. More about 'Haunting Violet': Violet Willoughby doesn't believe in ghosts, especially since her mother has worked as a fraudulent medium for a decade. Violet has taken part in enough of her mother's tricks to feel more than a little jaded about anyhting supernatural. The ghosts, however, believe in Violet and she's been seeing them everywhere. One ghost in particular needs Violet to use her emerging gift to solve her murder . . . and prevent the ghost's twin sister from suffering the same fate.
