While in a coma following an automobile accident that killed her parents and younger brother, seventeen-year-old Mia, a gifted cellist, must decide to fight for her life, her dreams and her rock musician boyfriend Adam or join her family in death.

After an accident takes the lives of her family, Mia is stuck between the real world and afterlife and must decide if she will let go and be with her family or stay and be on her own.

Before the accident, Mia had punk rock parents, a loving boyfriend, and a shy passion for playing the cello. Now everything has changed, and Mia’s in a coma, looking back and wondering if life is worth fighting for.

A poignant account of a family tragedy that impacts the lives of those left behind. Sad and haunting, one feels the despair of an entire community. Solid read.

This title is comparable to The Fault In Our Stars by John Greene, but somehow not quite as poignant. What I enjoyed most about it was the characters- though musically gifted, they are very much normal teenagers. I loved the main character's parents for being a little different.

This might be the first book I've read that was outdone by its movie version. As other reviewers said, the book was slow and overly sappy at times, and the ending seemed very abrupt. Good story overall, but not the best delivery.

Amazing book. The flashbacks are sometimes confusing. The next book is a good sequel, in my opinion.

“If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it'd be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I'd do it. I can lose you like that if I don't lose you today. I'll let you go. If you stay.”

I read this book because its going to be a movie. To my surprise it was a drag out process for me. I'm not sure if its because I'm an adult reading a teen book but she just took way.... To long to figure out her outcome. Sometimes I just wanted to scream at the book lol.

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...

A sophisticated, layered, and heart-achingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make, and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

What if you had everything?
A gorgeous boyfriend who was madly in love with you?
Quirky hip parents who got you?
A musical talent that could take you anywhere?
What if your biggest problem in life was choosing which paths to take ?
Follow your first love-music- to New York City?
Or stay with your boyfriend , friends , and family?
What if one day you went for a drive . . .
And in an instant everything changed?
What if suddenly all the other choices were gone?
Except for one - the one that truly ever mattered ?
What would you do?
Stay . . .
If I Stay . . . .
If Mia Stays . . .
