When Henry--a mysterious boy who claims to be Hades, god of the underworld--makes a deal with Kate to help save her mother's life, Kate must pass seven tests and become Henry's immortal lover, or die trying.
It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall. Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests. Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

Add a CommentI thought the idea was creative and I expected so much more from this story and I didn't get it. I wouldn't say it was a hugee disappointment, there were some interesting concepts but I guess the flow and the character development didn't sit that well for me. I thought the Percy Jackson series portrayed Greek gods and goddesses in modern day a whole lot better. I thought Kate made friends awfully fast for a girl who didn't know how to make friends or whatever. She called James her best friend practically after the second day! And I thought it was unrealistic. And they could've explained the whole goddesses dying idea and then all of a sudden those "dead" gods and goddesses reappeared at the end because they're still part of the council? That didn't make sense to me at all. I felt like a whole of stuff were left unexplained. And the idea of the "seven tests" could've been more exciting, or at least I expected it to. The seven deadly sins aren't even part of Greek mythology I think, they're more Roman Catholic. So I thought the tests would have something to do with Greek myths and Kate would've got to prove her strength and overcome all these exciting tests/battles. But no. So it was definitely lower than my expectations. But it was interesting enough.
This was a great book involving greek mythology in modern day. It was intriguing, exciting, and well written. It kept me reading until I finished. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys a mix of greek mythology and romance but also some action and mystery.
yes kokokoala, this is the first book. My friend is introducing me to the series and now I'm trying it.(ps. my friend is dying because of the new book not being able to come out for a wile :P)
is this the first book? i've been wanting to read this series but i don't know which one to start with!
such a great series, please read all of the books because i couldn't put them down they are that good! Can't wait till february 2013 for the next book after the goddess legacy.
I loved this book. I think it among the best YA paranormal books out there. The twist on Greek mythology is great and very original. The pacing is excellent. The narrator is very relatable. There are some great twists in the book. I especially found the romance aspect refreshing - I know others thought there wasn't enough romance, but I really liked the fact that the main characters weren't hopelessly in love in fifteen minutes. I liked the way their romance developed - it was more like a winding river than a runaway train.
strange at first but it is a good read
