Add a CommentGreat story telling ! Beautiful animation !!
Enjoyable movie for older children. As others have indicated the theme of the movie is disturbing and should not be watched by younger children. Power to the kids, which is a theme I always enjoy in a film. So the older, adventurous kids will enjoy this.
Definitely not a children's movie. The story line is very disturbing from start to finish. Without giving away too much, there are some things about the story that you should be aware of...the mom gets abducted from her bedroom by aliens in a scary middle of the night scene...the mom gets strapped to a table by aliens, and spends the whole movie there, awaiting her execution (to make matters worse, a very disturbing and graphic execution of another mother was shown to make the son aware of what awaited his mother). The son spends the entire movie desperately trying to save his mom from a similar fate. It's rated PG, but in my opinion, should be rated "do not watch", especially if you're a child.
I enjoyed this film, the storyline didn't seem too cookie-cutter and it showcased some wonderful creativity with the animation. I don't think I'll be watching this one over and over, but I'm glad I watched it at least the one time.
My kids and I enjoyed this movie. I liked at the when they showed how the movie was made.
I found this better then the critics or box office showed. I wasn't turned off by the motion capture filming, it just looked like good computer animation. The story was fine, lots of action, suspense and such. I do think that it is sort of geared toward a weird audience. Younger kids I think would be both turned off by the theme (mom captured by aliens) and scared by some of the disturbing scenes. But older kids just may not be into these types of movies any more. So it sort of fell through the cracks. Worth watching though.
the movie was good so i watched it twice
This is fantastic. Berkley's picture book is a bit shorter but the movie had the best source of inspiration.
My son did not enjoy this. Said it was a lot of drama. It has that realistic style animation.
In some ways--its nauseating gender stereotyping aside--this film is less offensive in both delivery and content than some of Disney’s other motion-capture features. It actually does a semi-adequate job of dramatizing the positive message that children should be more appreciative of their mothers, and also--but to a lesser, more subtle extent--the reverse proposition that parents should appreciate and enjoy their children more. (In general, I find elementary-school-aged children respond constructively to the idea of rescuing their parents.) The film’s special effects are decent enough, if copied from Disney’s prior "Tron" series, and Dan Fogler does an unexpectedly sympathetic job of voicing the 9-year-old protagonist’s sidekick, Gribble. http://calicojack2.blogspot.com/2011/10/mars-needs-moms-dvd-2011-12.html?spref=bl
