Decent start to a short series, mixing fantasy and science fiction to tell the story of a boy apprenticed to a Relic Master, a sorcerer who seeks and uses ancient technologies and who is opposed by the Watch, which is suspicious of the relics. When the two meet a girl who secretly works for the Watch, they must continue their quest, even as they begin to realize that she is a spy who will likely betray them.
