Okay, time for an adult perspective. When my DD, aged 11, brought this book home from the school library I looked for literary reviews because the series was unfamiliar to me. (I work at a library) No literary reviews=concern on my part. Also, lots of breathless, ALL CAPS!!! reviews did not make me feel any better. So my daughter and I are reading the books together. We are on number 4. The reviewers are correct that this series is all drama all of the time. Lots of fights between girls, misunderstandings blown out of proportion from lack of effective communication, a handful of mean girls and on and off boyfriends . Plus lots of good parts where the scene is the stable and girls are working with their horses to learn skills and develop their riding abilities and styles. I could use way less DRAMA and more horses. And my DD agrees, but cliff hanging endings make her want to read more. I'll go along with her until there is kissing and them we are done. There are better books out there.

First book in the series

kinda good book. not really worth the read though. I feel bad that the author can't ride horses anymore, but her book aren't all that great. first books usually aren't all that great.

Just finished this book. Two words: LOVED IT!!!!!

Jessica Burkhart is an absolutely amazing author!
As soon as I finished 'Take The Reins' I had 'Chasing Blue', (2) on hold. I am now up to book 14 and loving the series. But Sasha stops being the main character in 'Chosen' and Lauren comes in. :'(

portrays a typical tween and teen's life. great books- full of drama and suspense
