Baker & Taylor
A latest entry in the Agatha Award-winning series finds a soon-to-be-married Molly Murphy searching for a Chinese immigrant's runaway bride, a case that makes Molly wonder if she would be helping or harming the possibly oppressed young woman she seeks. By the author of The Last Illusion. 30,000 first printing.

McMillan Palgrave

With Molly Murphy’s wedding to NYPD Captain Daniel Sullivan quickly approaching, the Irish sleuth heads to the Westchester County countryside, where his mother can lend her a hand and advise her on a bride’s proper place. And shockingly, Molly seems to be agreeing. She has already promised that she’ll close up her PI business and settle down after marrying, but she isn’t a married woman yet. So, when she gets word of a possible case, she sneaks back into the city to squeeze in a little more sleuthing before the wedding bells can ring.

A wealthy Chinese immigrant wants her to find his missing bride, and Molly---sure she isn’t getting the whole story---suspects that his bride ran off. But where could she go? The only Chinese women in early-twentieth-century New York are kept under lock and key, and Molly can’t help but wonder if she’s saving the woman from the streets or helping to lock her away for good.

Rhys Bowen’s deft touch and charming wit make Bless the Bride another stellar addition to her Anthony and Agatha Award--winning historical series.

As usual Molly is up to her eyeballs in solving mysteries--even after she has promised her new husband, Daniel, that she will stop her detective work. However, their honeymoon starts with Daniel contracting pneumonia, so who else will find out about the secrets of the family in whose cottage they are staying? The story starts with Molly and Daniel caught in a huge rainstorm, spending the night in a stable for lack of other shelter, and a sighting of a ghost in a tower window. Since the local constable doesn't realize that two deaths are murder, what else can Molly do, but find out what's going on? I love the period details. Rhys Bowen does great research.

I enjoy learning about early New York City. This particular history lesson about the Chinese wasn't my favorite but the rest of the story was great!

With each book in this series, we learn more about New York in those times.

One of the best.

This story is filled with brides and brides-to-be, all of whom have complications to the relationship. Will Molly remain alive long enough for her own wedding, or will it be called off?
