Add a CommentEnjoyable read and series. Looking forward to next book.
OK action yarn. One complaint I have is that this mate bond between Mercy and Adam is becoming cloying. Reminds me of seeing strolling couples with their arms wrapped around each other like super-glued pretzels (even on a hot day).
The Mercy Thompson series is one of my favorite pulpy urban fantasy series. Its an easy, fun read, and I love that its set in Washington.
Great Book! I was hooked straight from the first page, love it!
Book 6 in the series. My only complaint for this book is that is wan't longer! Whether you're a first time reader or not, you're bound to fall in love with all the characters in this urban fantasy world. Plus, the author lives in Washington! It's a lot of fun recognizing some of the places she mentions in her books. I would also highly suggest reading her other series involving Anna and Charles, starting with the book "Cry Wolf".
4.5 Mercy and Adam on their Honeymoon! YAY finally!<br/>I enjoyed this one it really gave Mercy some answers she had been missing from her Father's side of the family. As mind bending as some of the explanations were it still worked. Poor Mercy I feel so bad for her poor battered body!!
This one breaks away from the pattern a bit, simply because so many of the supporting characters aren't there - but that's a good thing! Briggs still gives us a fun, entertaining story with enough moments of worry that you can't put it down. If you've read this far, don't miss this one. If you haven't read anythign else in the series, you'd be better off starting with an earlier book.
This is a pointless, bloated book. She's written better - may be time to end the series
This rating is rounded up to 5 not because it was a book I couldn't put down but because of how the book made me feel. It was more of a comfort-read to me. I love Mercy and Adam and enjoyed their together-ness in this book and was never bored. The book did serve up a good amount of mystery and suspense but just not the edge-of-your-seat kind. In this book there's a trade-off. Adam, Adam, and more Adam....not much going on with her friends. In Book #5 Adam was NOT involved for most the last half of the book! You CAN'T get a book taking place on a honeymoon AND have all her friend's from back home take part in the plot! It's in the 1st person and Mercy can't be in two places at once so I was happy with the cohesion of the storyline. (I personally didn't miss the other characters because I'd just read #1-5 within the last few weeks! I may have if I had waited a year for the book to be released however.) Next book HAS to be back home and about Yo-yo Girl!!! During the honeymoon we are given interesting insight into the so-called Great Spirits and Mercy's origins. I found this aspect of the book interesting and unique for a UF book. Briggs give us something new in a change of setting which is a more realistic place for Mercy to learn about her origins and meet other walkers. I did find it unrealistic though that the police wouldn't have asked how and who killed the (view spoiler)[monster (hide spoiler)] especially considering Mercy's condition...despite the native issues mentioned. Is Mercy a hero in the papers or not?!? I guess not...or maybe there will be a mention in the next book. Being known for her heroic accomplishments would be better than being known as the victim she was previously. Look forward to another in the series in 2013.
This book is wonderfully done. Even though it is the sixth of a series, the plot doesn't seem forced. You learn about Mercy Thompson's heritage, and you get to see the relationship between Mercy and Adam deepen and develop further. There is hardly no other wolves or vampires in this novel, just brief mentions and visits. It's all about the newly married couple. Not that it is a bad thing. There were some parts of the plot that seems a little hokey, and a little forced, but a great read overall!
